Hypothetical

In another dimension you have a single brand collection with a $5,000 cap. How many pieces is up to you. What brand are you going with? (elaborate)

I don't have specific brands or numbers but I'm definitely going quality over quantity.

·

Most likely I’d buy a few old Omegas

·

Longines, they are the most versatile brand at this range, would buy conquest sunray brown and tuxedo

·

Didn’t see that coming, but makes perfect sense

Love that choice. Hard to beat

Could have a perfect 3 watch collection going that route. Cool pick

·

For me it would be Marathon. They offer tritium, and the option of quartz or mechanical.

The only downside is the lack of a dressy option, but that is something I can live with.

·

I would go for some vintage pieces, most likely from Omega, Longines, Hamilton.

·

I could buy a lot of Casios for 5k but it’s hard not to say I would get a black bay 58 in blue and a 1926 in opaline (already have the 1926 so just need the bb58 to make this a reality). I would also strongly consider a longines sector dial heritage and a Zulu Time and that would honestly be the perfect two watch collection (maybe add a seiko diver in for a beater)

·

I'd say Seiko. Could put together a very well rounded collection for $5K. Lots to choose from too.

·

Another vote for Longines. Seiko would be my second choice.

·

Christopher Ward. For $5k , I can have 1 chronograph (C65), 1 GMT (Sealander), 1 diver (Trident), and a GADA (C63)

·

Casio: you have so many great options and can build sub-collections. There's always classic and vintage Casio; Enticer, Edifice, and Lineage lines for sporty offerings; ProTrek and G Shocks for beaters. They have analog, digital, titanium, divers, chronographs, aviation, integrated bracelets, moonphase, tanks, etc. They also have plenty of aftermarket support and upgrades.

·

For $5k I think would go with a Tudor Pelagos 39 and be happy being a one watch guy. Or if I buy used and could maybe stretch the budget an extra few hundred I think you could get the pellet 39 and still have enough for a linen dial Tudor prince day date

·

About £3.9k GBP. With that price cap, I’m going Hamilton. Using prices currently available, I’m getting (1) Mechanical Intramatic Chrono, reverse panda, mesh (2) 300m ceramic bezel Navy Scuba, white dial (3) 38mm titanium KFA, green dial and(4) Boulton mechanical, blue dial. Do I get to cheat and retain the 2 I already have?

Congrats on the 1926. And wow that’s a tough call between that and the Longines 2 watch collection. Can’t go wrong either way. The Longjnes is a cool sleeper pick on those two.

I like to visualize others, but honestly for that exact reason I’d probably go Seiko too. Full vertical and horizontal choices with quality in any direction you want to go. Auto, quartz, digital, dress, sport, casuals, multiple price ranges…

I am starting to be shifted into a CW supporter. For years I couldn’t get past the name on the dial. Great watches - design and specs

I would probably blow almost all of it on a pre-owned Speedmaster. Then pickup a budget diver (Seiko or Raven or something similar) for more extreme situations (swimming, yard work, etc).

A Speedmaster is incredibly versatile in a wide variety of situations, has a great movement and is culturally iconic even outside of watch-nerdom.

One of my top 3 picks for the perfect one watch collection. Bravo

Wow. That is the best 4 watch proposal I’ve seen. Balanced, every occasion, not skimping on quality. You can “gift” the two you have to someone very close to you who also keeps their watch box very close to you…

I would buy one datejust, OP or Explorer

I respect that. That’d be extremely tempting

·

Cristopher Ward because Longines and Seiko are spoken for by others:

I would either go for Tudor pelagos + ranger or 3 Longines but it would depend what was available used. If used wasn't an option I would go for Seiko or Citizen.

Edit: Wow I completely forgot my favourite brand CW, that would definitely be my choice.

I’ve said it on here before but I really missed the boat on CW. I am starting to understand. It must be something for you to take them over Tudor or Longines. I’m going to have to test a few on wrist.

My choice here is Farer.

  1. https://usd.farer.com/products/meredith-gmt

This GMT is Limited to 100 pieces. The dial is amazing. The lume is incredible. Sellita SW330-2 Automatic movement. Just take a look I don't even need to say anymore about it.

$1,450

2. https://usd.farer.com/products/durham-pullman

This is another incredible piece. Again limited to 100 pieces. The case and the dial are really beautiful. This time with a Sellita SW216-1 mechanical movement. You have to see this movement with your own eyes its stunning.

$995

3. https://usd.farer.com/products/cribbar

This diver has 200 meters water resistance. The dial and bezel here have my favorite color combination out there right now on a diver. Unique. Sellita SW220-1 automatic movement. This is a really cool dive watch.

$1,050

4. https://usd.farer.com/products/milan

This tonneau has an incredible dial. Sellita SW200-1. Another one you have to lay eyes on to appreciate. This is a new model. A lot of watch for the price.

$1,250

So that's 4 amazing watches. 2 of them are limited runs and for what your getting here I personally don't know another brand out there right now where you can get this much value for the price. They have incredible dials. You're under 5k here. You have enough left to get an extra strap or 2 from my calculations. Check it out for yourself. I'm a huge fan of Farer. Best value out there right now in the -$2,500 pricepoint.

Wow, extra style points for clarity and precision in your decision. Also the only Farer pick I believe. Hella cool and balanced collection

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying they are as good as Tudor and I would say that the majority of their watches are slightly below Longines, but I prefer their designs, they are considerably cheaper and I can get amazing used deals since I'm in the UK. I got my cosc CW Dartmouth for £500 used but only 6 months old. If you buy them at full retail they are good watches that you will be happy with, if you can get them used you won't find a better watch.

Cool. There are a lot of great brands and models listed in this thread. Good luck with whatever you choose.

·

Cool, but if you had to pick from one of those three…?

Omega is my favorite, so it be my number one choice. So, I would get one of these.

Ibreally want that diver this year. That color combination is really cool to me. It reminds me of an 80s video game for some reason.

Longines has great history.

Longines has great history.

I've never been one to pay for historical significance unless it's something I've been part of.
