Wedding Watch!

Getting married, and my fiancée wants to buy me a watch for the wedding. I don’t want a sports watch likely as I wear my speedy most days. I’ve attached my current collection. I don’t want her to spend more than $5,000. What’s a great, classic dress watch for under that price point? Ideally white or black face. My ideal dress watch is a VC Patrimony or JLC MUT moon, but those are likely out of my price range for decades. Thanks!

Love the Glashutte Original Sixties but may need to go preowned for that price. Congrats!

That’s a really cool watch! I’ll look on chrono24 and eBay for some models

You already have that square Seiko, which is a perfect dress watch for a serious marriage...

Even if I would prefer one of these... That cost from only 35 to 280 euro, except the magnificent Rado and Cartier at the end - which naturally are faaaar too expensive...

How about an Omega Deville? Or something from the Seiko Pressage range?

·

Have you looked at the Longines "Classic" or "Flagship" lines? They all come in under budget, are from a brand with impressive history, and aren't anywhere near the top end of your price range.

·

For a truly classy, harder to find classic, take a look at a pre-owned (long discontinued) 34mm JLC Master Ultra Thin manual wind (either black or silver face). That movement and the watch is soooo thin, and the extra technology to make it look even thinner (due to a razor thin edge) is not something you see everyday. The exhibition casaback displays a movement that shows why they are the watchmaker of watchmakers.

Go all out mate, go for the Bel-Canto, looks great makes chiming noises and will be a conversation starter always. Then you can link it to your marriage (congrats btw 🎉).

And it is bellow budget of 5K 😄

Personally I would go for this one ;

Hi, I’m with TinyTim on this it has to be the Bel Canto, so unusual so dressy absolutely individual and a piece that will shine for years to come.

I have a slight disagreement with TinyTims colour choice though for me it would have to be blue 🤪

You can one of these for half that.

18k gold. Original strap, signed crown and plexi…

This one is for sale £1500

I definitely have! I like Longines catalog a lot, a 37mm spirit might be my next watch purchase. I’ll cruise through their dressier watches right now. Cheers 🍻

What’s the reference number to shop for them? Those are of course nice, would even fill the void of my grandpa’s 60’s seamaster

·

Was also going to suggest a Tank - plenty of options to choose from, even more if you go used - and shareable between you both too!

·

Congrats on getting married. What about a RGM?

Those are pretty cool! That website is horrible in terms of telling me how much watches cost unfortunately

New DeVille’s are a little outside of my price range but a pre-owned one could be nice!

·

I would be the last person to turn down a gift watch...How about something a little dressy maybe a Cartier Tank...something simple and elegant...Just a thought

Are you from the US? If so you maybe able to take a tour of the RGM watch company. That way you can speak with the founder Roland G Murphy.

All I know is it has ‘Tool106’ stamped on the back. Which I believe is a De Ville. Although I’m not certain, only had it a matter of weeks.

The dial does not say De Ville btw.

I believe it is from the 1980’s

From what I have gathered, it requires a special tool to remove the plexi, hence Tool 106.

If I make it to PA I’ll have to do that

Longines Master Collection. Classic/classy dress watch, a few sizes to choose, and some complications (moonphase is my favourite) to choose from. The 190th special editions come in some precious metal if you’re into that.

All under $4k!
