Birth year Submariner for 40th birthday

I picked up this beautifully preserved 16800 Submariner from 1984 to celebrate my 40th birthday. I have a collection of 10 watches, including 3 Rolex, 2 Omega, a Tudor and some others. This one feels truly special. It’s like the itch I’ve been trying to scratch with all the others. I love all of my watches, and wear them frequently, but this one may have curbed my appetite for the “next one”. It’s time to settle down, appreciate the journey and all I have collected. Forget chasing that high…at least for some time. Truth be told, it’s an expensive hobby! Now to make some memories with this bad boy, and set some seriously big goals for when the time is right to add in another…gonna be a while. So happy and content.

Congratulations, that is a nice looking watch. I am looking for a birth year watch.

Beautiful! 👍

Congrats on picking up the 16800! Love the patina on the yours. You’re absolutely spot on regarding appreciating the journey with your collection failing which, we’re forever be chasing it won’t end? Haha but to many that’s the whole point of collecting. I too am learning to ‘settle down’. Did you get yours with box and papers?

Glad to hear I’m not the only one! This one did not come with box or papers. I would usually be a stickler for those, and the lack of them would be a deal breaker. In this case, I was more concerned with the condition of the watch and originality. I have a closet full of boxes. The price was great as well, and I am hoping to keep this in the collection indefinitely. Either way, should I choose to move it on at some point, I don’t see a loss happening. It all just seemed so right, and I am beyond pleased!

I want to find a 1990 Rolex.

·

Congrats!

Congrats! That's really, really clean and an interesting lume pip/pearl color or patina maybe?

·

Great one! Maybe the best.

·

Congrats. Looks great. Enjoy!

·

Congratulations 🥳 I got one of these for my 2006 E2 polar and it was the best aftermarket investment. Suggest you consider as you could even love this watch more in warmer weather https://steel-reef.com/collections/rolex-oyster-5-digit/products/rolex-submariner-extension-link-oyster-bracelet-5-digit

·

Congrats! I'm still looking for the right 1984 watch for myself.

I’m afraid I may have to take up archeology to find an example of a birth watch for me… 1962, anyone? 🧐

How bout 1956 😳

How bout 1956 😳

Well, this is likely in that ballpark… (Hard to date much more specifically than mid-50’s.)

Nice, I’d like a mid 50s Sub but I’d have to sell a kidney 😂

Sure, but at our age are our organs even worth anything? 🤔😂

Wow, didn’t even think about that. 😆

I would like to have a birth year watch..but mine might have to be a 'sun dial'..LOL

Is that patina I see? Marvelous

It sure is. Some nice aged lume on the indices and matching patina on the hands. All original, seemingly unpolished case too with very light wear. Tight bracelet!

Congratulations!

Congratulations and happy birthday! I’ll be 37 this year . While I’m in no position to snag a birth year Rolex, I do intend to treat myself with a green Longines Spirit Zulu 39mm for my 40th.

I really like the way you schemed that all out. Brilliant. And, I'm sure, wholly satisfying.
