Smaller and smaller

Am I the only one?

Somehow the last two years I tried a couple of smaller watches….

I know size is only one aspect of how a watch wears. But in general … most of the normal sized watches (40 -42mm) seems too big now. I keep shifting my taste to smaller and smaller watches. 38, 37 or even 36mm are real options now. Wouldn’t dream of wearing a 36mm watch 10 years ago.

The watch in the photo is even smaller. 27x36mm.

Anyone else?

Yep, went as high as 44/45 mm on my small 6.5 wrist (I have dinner plate hands so it kinda worked). Now (past 2-3y) I’ve moved sub 40mm. My Baltic Hermétique 37mm is lovely.

Also, that’s a beautiful pic 😍

Freedom from modern norms brings comfort and aesthetic. That's a great Cellini. None of the recent ones do it for me as they are all dinner plates.

Fat guy here, 8" wrist, started wearing a 37mm recently, no going back

Talk about vintage! Is it quartz? Looks to be of that era.

I've never gone over 40mm but even that seems too much to me these days. 36-37mm tends to work best for me. I think the sweet spot is when the watch head appears to cover 50% of the width of wrist. There are always exceptions, and lugs can be slightly longer, but much beyond half now looks oversized to my eye.

It is hand wound. Cal. 1601 😊

I had no idea this existed, what a cool watch

Wonderful! That is the Rolex to wear. A welcome deviation from the turnip-squeezed mundane.

I love this one

10 years ago I got my first watch in a long time. It was an anniversary gift from my wife, though I got to pick it out. I picked a Movado in their Museum line. It has a 36mm case and about 7mm thick. I love the way it wears.

Fast forward to December of 2023 when I decided that I wanted to start wearing a watch on a regular basis. The first watch I bought was an Orient from their Classic line. It has a 42mm case and is 12.5mm thick. Every watch I've bought has been smaller, except for my black Seiko 5, it's 40mm x 13.2mm thick but doesn't wear that thick.

I will never buy anything over 40mm again, and look mostly at 35-39mm watches.

Certainly, yours being a dress watch, I can see the small size for some small wristed folks. I'm close to an 8" wrist. Not small, but not huge either. Also, for me, I just don't dress up anymore.

I have only two watches that I'll still wear that are under 40 mm. Pictured here, they're my tribute to older Omega's. 40 & 80 years-old, respectively (approx.).

Otherwise, and contrary to some anymore, give me 42 mm '+'. I love the presence (dimension & weight) on your wrist. You're wearing something, and I like that feeling.

Exactly the same. I’m really enjoying smaller watches

Never was into larger watches tbh, ”smaller” watches just always hit harder to me and looks more elegant
