Weird collections?

So by being watch enthusiasts we're a weird lot aren't we. A collection of watches? Whoever heard of such madness?

Years of close up magic obsession and a fondness for Poker has left me with a 35 piece playing card deck collection. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a "weird collection" so what unorthodox things have you accumulated?

Edit: I'm sorry for the poor spreads those decks are quite old

Nope.  I collect normal things, like watches.  My wife, on the other hand:

  • Ye olde books - WTF does anybody need with a physical book anymore?  I mean, I know she knows that iPads exist, because we argue about how much time to allow the kids to have 'em.  And, yet, she still reads by looking at ink, sprayed and dried on dead tree pulp.  Mostly, she buys sh*t like this - you know, stuff that’s been collecting mold and other alien materials for hundreds of years, so as to better infect our lungs when she opens them up

  • Paintings - Again, WTF???  Stuff like this is her deal

I mean, if you want something that looks cool, just get a print of what every 18 year-old has up in their college dorm room - like this!  I think this is like $10 off Amazon!

I gotta tell ya, dude, you need to stop collecting weird sh*t.  Otherwise, you're gonna end up like one of these people:

You can't beat a physical book. It just feels nice (that's what she said. Sorry couldn't resist). I saw a first edition of Casion Royale go under the hammer recently and I was dying to get my hands on it.As the ancient proverb says, sticks and stones may break my bones, but a dictionary round the head will kill me

Thankfully my wardrobe is quite full already, can't amass too many more white shirts.

Books about Surrealism. This is probably the weirdest one.

My watch collection is becoming very black or white for the same reasons 😫😂

Zippo lighters for me. I have about 20 of them, from different decades, but haven’t been actively collecting in over 10 years.

·

Old Jim Beam decanters. The 60/70s wildlife decanters are my favorite. Although I have this particular decanter, this is just a stock image I called from the Googles

The accumulation of about five typewriters (three manual which work fine and two trouble-ridden electric ones) might qualify, as would the dozen or so fountain pens I've amassed. I really don't consider myself a collector though.

Pens are really cool they're just really expensive. Where do you get yours just antique stores or?

I used to collect keychains, pretty common to find in the 90's, not as much anymore.

IS THAT A BEAKER KEYRING?

I think that's the most orthodox collection in this thread. Aren't marbles supposed to be the oldest toy in the world or something? Do you play as well or is it a shelf collection?

I started collecting when I was younger, so we did used to play each other and try to win a “cool” one. These days they’re just in a box somewhere, sadly. Haha

I'm no big spender.  I think $20 is the most I've ever paid. Half are new budget Asian moderns. I have a couple vintage off ebay, a few literally found (a Parker 51 in a desk drawer!), and a couple from a flea market.

The worst part is that, like watches and bands, these lead to secondary collections of ink, ribbons, paper... The razor guys surely have gobs of soaps and creams and so on and so on.

I collected toy marbles over the years. This was before EBay so I found them in various antique shops and yard sales. The photo is part of my collection.

I have everything from clay marbles, traditional machine-made cat’s eye marbles, to handmade latticino core, banded core, banded swirls, and onion skins: which are all various cane-cut marbles that were produced mostly in Germany from the early 1800s to around 1920.

My rarest marble is just below the large onion skin - the small one with alternating blue and copper bands; it’s called a Lutz, and the copper band is made of adventurine, which is glass flecked with copper or gold flakes. They’re sought after by collectors (and pretty expensive on eBay) but I found that one for ten cents at an antique market. The fun part about collecting marbles was that they were very inexpensive to collect, but now I see them selling for quite a lot, especially the rarer ones which can go for hundreds of dollars. Handmade marbles are easily distinguished by a small pontils, which are rough spots on the glass where the marble was cut from the rod.

That is such a cool  😎 collection and heaps of history as well 👍

Collector of memories, experiences, and education.

I used to collect books and still have some nice first and early edition Twain and a few others from when you could go into some rural old book store and find them at a bargain price. I read a lot, but I switched to ebooks a long time ago. (A physical book may feel better in your hands, but 1000 books feels better in a Kindle.)

I blame Thoreau for being persuasive, but I tend to get one or a small few examples of something I enjoy and then continue learning about something else. My parents and grandparents were big collectors of things, so I get it. I just enjoy the simplicity of enjoying, learning, and appreciating but not collecting. Hopefully this doesn’t get me banned on WC.

Yep it's all Henry's fault. I think you may be right in your philosophy but I personally enjoy being wrong on this one so what you gonna do `\_(°,°)_/'

Nice. I’m originally from the UK and I know the laws are a little weird technically a non-locking blade under 3 inches is legal but good luck if you get caught with that.

Wow at least I don't feel bad I went from action figures, pet rocks, comic books, model cars and now watches. Hobbies keep us from getting in trouble.
