Mine’s Christopher Ward. I feel like they’ve got a wide enough range and they’re not afraid to think outside the box at times, like with the Bel Canto, and for the price you pay you get a lot more than with a lot of other brands.

·

I'd probably have to say Rado. They seem to do their own thing with unconventional designs and materials and I can appreciate not caring to follow the pack.

·

Grand Seiko for Me love there polishing there grammar of design,or case shapes for none Grand seiko maniacs 😂think the price pre owned is amazing compared to other brands I get mine at seiko prices, plus another massive bonus there under the radar there not the popular kid in the room. And obviously seiko vintage more than new models ❤️🔥👌

·

Cartier. They just design timeless and beautiful watches. Both hype pieces and classics.

·

Even though I do not own one but are on my short list, my favorite brand is Grand Seiko. Their dial making is PURE art and I LOVE looking at the creativity of their dial making. I case polishing is so BEAUTIFUL. To me they are almost flawless watches.

·

Breitling because the watches recall happy carefree years when my older brother was still around to make my life chaotic, sunny vacations to Europe with my perfect wife, because my daughter wears my 20 year old Chronomat proudly as she forges ahead in her own life, because my niece never takes off her adored dad’s old 2 tone from the 80s. I own other terrific watches but I wear Breitling watches to calm my heart.

·

Mine used to be Cartier for years but it's since changed to Omega purely down to the number of different models that they have that I like.

At the more affordable price range Seiko has now become my favourite ousting Christopher Ward from the slot. Seiko simply have a huge number of watches at great prices that I like.

OMEGA

History, innovation, accuracy, precision.

Space, Olympic Games and Bond.

Grandad was wearing one when he stormed the beach at Normandy on D-Day with the Royal Marine Commandos.

I've "gone commando" on a beach, but that's as close as I've got to his bravery 😂, but at least I can honour him (& others) by wearing the same brand.

·

The broke lad's friend - Casio.

They do utilitarian, they do pretty, they do stylish, they do solar (and radio too). They don't do mechanicals, but that's about the only thing. And they start at really cheap prices with amazing value.

Wearing your watch - and nothing else? 😁

Franck Muller.

Because they put two rabbits together inappropriately.

Casio has been my favorite for a long time, but I have recently discovered Citizen and I really am liking some of their stuff, especially the Eco-drive line.

·

Citizen. They make incredible watches that can take a beating and don't cost an arm and a leg. They have a huge selection of pieces for everyone from the budget strapped student to the company running executive.

·

Hamilton. It fits my lifestyle perfectly, I love the simplicty and overall feel while wearing them, as you can see:

Hard to choose a fave so I can give you a top 5 maybe …

  1. Seiko

  2. Grand seiko

  3. Rolex

  4. San martin

  5. Tissot

  6. Orient

There’s more but I know you asked for one & not necessarily a list. 🤯

Great array of brands with plenty of pricepoints and options to enjoy.

Rolex for me. I only have one, hope to get an OP or a Datejust, and that may be my last watch. Some say it’s boring, but then it’s the most copied brand.

Image

I’ve always been into watches. I don’t exactly remember when I first saw an AD, maybe pics outside Ben Bridges at Ala Moana mall in Honolulu. Even then, in my teens I wanted a Submariner or a DateJust. I remember my friend got an Explorer for graduation. He didn’t come from a rich family, in fact he grew up in a single mom household. It was aspirational and a reward for hard work, graduating number 1 in his class from a very prestigious private high school that he attended on an academic scholarship. He’s a very successful radiologist today. He’s gotten another Rolex since, and Explorer 2.

I like every watch they offer and for many years my GMT Master 2 was my daily beater. As I began, i think a simple OP or Datejust will be my exit watch.

Great post - appreciate the detail. Have to say the Datejust is hard to beat in terms of being iconic and so well designed.

Right now I say Monta. Absolute quality and a reasonable price.

Monta is perhaps the best small brand out there. The great diverse modelines, build and design quality, and superb price points make it an insane brand to into and enjoy. I feel my Monta Noble competes very well with my Omega and Rolex. So right there with you!

Omega. I bought my first one in 1987 and I’ve now had ten and not a single one has disappointed. This is closely followed by sinn I’ve only had 7 but each one again has been fantastic. I’m currently going through a seiko dive watch thing at the moment. As for my favourite brand I’ve never owned and probably won’t it’s Vacheron Constantin I love almost every thing they make they are the ultimate watch in my opinion with an unmatched history. So I’ve got 4 three I’ve owned and one I’d love to own shout out to jlc I’ve had a reverso duo face and was without a doubt the best watch I’ve ever owned

Totally agree on Omega and the other brands you discussed. Our tastes and preferences in watches are quite similar.

Glycine offers a time of heritage and great designs for really compelling pricepoints. The Airman 36mm Purist is such a amazing heritage model, and their diver line offers so many configurations for about any collectors preferences.

Tudor.

It feels special to wear.

It's achievable.

It doesn't fall pray to hype as much as it big brother.

It's quality is fantastic.

It's not stupidly priced.

It has history.

I own three soon to be four lol

Totally agree. I am totally sold on the brand's smaller case watches loke the BB36 and BB54 - as they wear so well on wrist.

Timex! TL;DR - Affordable & everywhere, durable, and eclectic!

It's special to a lot of people - myself included - as they're often what gets us interested to/introduced in watches. And they're so ubiquitous (maybe not in watch spaces) because they're so affordable and accessible! Not to mention, generous discounts a lot of the time too

(IMO there's a difference: something can be cheap, but hard to find (think double edged razor blades nowadays), whereas Timex is both!)

They have a bit of everything too! (In regular lug widths - 18/20). This is just off the top of my head, but there's definitely more

Diver - Q line, certain Waterburys

Dress - Marlin, certain Waterburys

Field - Expedition,

Flieger - Pan-Am collab

GADA - Weekender

Gshocky - Ironman line

And lots of casual Snoopy/Peanuts/thematic watches

Not only that, but you can get mechanicals/auto, digital, quartz, and solar in one place & brand. Some of their more expensive pieces also come with straps made with really high quality leather from the tannery that makes RedWing boots!

Great write up - love your passion for the Timex brand and concur with all!

I'd say Hanhart and Archimede, but since Hanhart's been mentioned a few times I'll say Archimede. I really like German watches for their functionality and design tradition(s). Archimede has both sturdy watches, classic watches and sturdy classic watches which is the best!

Archimede is SUCH an amazing brand - and so under the radar for some reason. I like all of its model lines - not sure which I will end up getting at some point, but definitely will add one to my collection at some point. Do you have all the ones shown, if so which is your favorite?

Amazing watch you have there! ALS is the premier watch brand IMO - and I aspire to obtain an ALS one day.

Mine is Tudor, great quality and big bang for buck.

Couldn't agree more. You have to try one on wrist to really get how great they wear.

·

Mine is Sinn. Great catalog of watches. Favorites are the 144 , 856s and UX

·

Girard Peregaux. Independent watch maker with a relatively low output. Producing some of the most innovative and impressive watches out there.

Some of their movements are even used by MB&F or Vacheron Constantin. That alone is a testament of exceptional quality.
