Which luxury watch should I get?

I’ve got a budget of 3k for a single watch - a wedding gift and was asked what I wanted. I’m leaning towards a Tudor black bay, any other suggestions?

Sinn 856 or U50.  Fully tegimented will get you pretty close.

·

You looking at anything else other than the BB? With 3K, I’d have a hard time picking from Longines, Marathon, Junghans, Damasko, Sinn, Weiss.

·

Need info. What else is your collection? What type of watch are you looking for (clearly a diver but are you open to other styles)? Is this going to be one you wear most days or just specific occasions? Do you want name recognition or are independent brands something you'd consider?

·

Some other suggestions:

Grand seiko sbga285/283 can be had in this price range as entry level spring drives. There are also quite a few quartz and mechanical models that can be bought in this price range.

Oris in-house aquis or big crown pointer date.

Aqua Terra 8500 38.5mm from previous generation can be found ~3k used.

Almost anything from Nomos - I am partial to the original Metro and Clubs.

·

Assume $ not £ but if I was spending circa 3k on a watch I'd be seriously looking at BB also. Have you considered Oris?

·

Sahuss, first congrats, that is awesome. Is it safe to assume you want a dive watch then? Otherwise $3K on a watch is wide open and none of us can answer that. What matters to you? Size? Durability? Water-resistance? Unique or classic design? Quality of movement? Quartz or automatic?

Lots in that range, almost too many. In addition to what has been shared, you have Nomos (hard to beat in this price point, especially used) and Oris. If you are willing to go quartz, you can get some great Grand Seikos.

Sadly, $3K is not getting a new black bay 41 or 38. You can probably get a couple hundred off of a 41 without a bracelet maybe down to $3200.

·

I agree with a Tudor. A Black Bay 41 with a metal bracelet is a great choice for that budget. I like all the dial colors too.

Great question! It really depends on your style and during what situations you'd like to wear it.

Since your considering the Black Bay, that's a great option, but I think closer to $4k. If you can stretch to 4, the Omega SMP is also worth considering.

Good call, he did not specify which BB so my mind went right to the divers. These are steals, especially second-hand.

The Tudor BB is a grate choise!

If i was in your position i would also look at the longines avigation bigeye.

But depends on what you looking for in a watch.

I agree with either Tudor or Oris if you’re looking for a new watch. The Longines is also a solid suggestion. If you’re interested in vintage, you could get a nice Omega Constellation Pie Pan with money to spare.

·

If your okay with a integrated bracelet the Oris Aquis is stunning in person. I just visited an AD and was looking at them. Internet pictures do not do them justice.

If going Sinn I would go with the 104. I think it shares some traits with the Black Bay and if your a Tudor Black Bay fan it will appeal to you more than the 556 or U50.

I also looked at a couple Rado Captain Cooks this weekend at the AD. They are a very sharp looking watch. I didn't really like the bezel action but I'm use to the spongy Seiko bezels and like them.

·

I like your thinking. I’d probably go for something along those lines as well.

or maybe 3, knock the Nomos down to a Club or go Junghans Max Bill, and add a Vero or Helson for the diver. Perfect little 3 watch collection.

I want to say that I’m pretty open but I’m quite picky, I really like divers and some more dressy options like the Carrera

Thank you! Apologies meant £3000, the black bay 58 refills at watches of Switzerland here for around 2.8k hence it’s on my list :)

I do like divers mainly, I own a Seiko Presage which is the only automatic watch that I own and wish to up my watch collection. Thank you for the suggestions :)

im not too picky, when it comes to build and movement, as long as they’re a good build and a solid and reliable movement, I cannot complain

Ah!  Yep, pounds changes the story!  Sorry about that. The 58 is brilliant and hard to beat in that range.

I didn’t consider a Longines before but that blue dial has caught my eye, I’ll definitely check it out

I viewed a Rado Captain Cook but I wasn’t too keen on the bezel either, other than that, definitely a solid watch.

I might check out the Oris Aquis, looking at it online, the bezel is another one I’m not too keen on but viewing in person is always different

Don’t worry about it! Feel like most people on here would be from the US, completely slipped my mind how pricing would differ

Apologies, do mean GBP! I’ve seen some watches from the likes of Oris and Rado but haven’t been too keen

Breitling Super Ocean 42?

Sounds like you might have the dressy option covered with the Seiko Presage. So you’re on the hunt for a GADA diver maybe? Only option I can come up with right now is the Longines Legend Diver, maybe?

Not a bad option, will definitely add it to the watches I view!

On a rubber strap it's 3060 in WoS and with the stainless steel bracelet it's 3220. I actually prefer it on the blue rubber. I have Oris Aquis Carysfort on orange rubber and I love it. Congratulations BTW.

I am in the same boat in terms of price range and agree with the above poster on the Breitling Superocean 42.  Planning to try one at the AD on Thursday with the hopes of buying. It's such a unique and clean look.

Always loved the look of the Aquis GMT from afar but got scared off due to size (43.5?).

But man, this watch on a rubber strap? One of the most versatile watches out right now.

·

I got the BB58 Blue and don’t regret it at all.

Perfect mid size, so won’t ever look strange as watch trends change. The thinness of the case is something I like too. Plus I feel the white markers and pop will age better than the black version.

But all my opinion! hopefully it’s helpful!

I was in a similar position a few months ago. My recommendation is to try them all in person and see what watch u can wear everyday to get the max enjoyment from the purchase. My short list was the grand seiko gmt cream dial blue hands, zenith 38 chrono, jlc rerverso duo, speedmaster fois, tudor bb 58. after trying them all out I went w a bb 58 blue. The case is nicely finished enough, the hands are unique w their shape. the watch is very comfortable w the bracelet. The movement w 70 hrs reserve is super useful. Other watches dont feel the same once on the wrist like the seiko is too big, the zenith looks too complex in design for my taste, the omega fois is slightly big and the reverso is too dressy. Its a personal choice so go w what ur heart tells you.
