commented on Who actually owns a Sub!? ·

Some of these responses are surprising to me. I live in Texas, and subs and datejusts are everywhere in white collar professions. Basically every other doctor, lawyer, finance bro is wearing a sub. I had a business meeting this morning with 8 people, and 3 were wearing subs. It is the best-executed modern Rolex in my opinion, but I would feel a little too stereotypical wearing one around.

Any of the following would be instant buys from me.

Tudor: Pelagos 39 in Blue; GMT 58; Black Dial Black Bay 36 on Oyster without crown tube; Black Bay 58 with updated non-rivet bracelet.

Rolex: Brushed oyster GMT; 20mm lugs on Explorer 36, or single baton version of OP 36.

Grand Seiko: Tons of watches I like that are just too big/thick for me. Just waiting for the right design to come in their 38.5 mm case.

Omega: Modern Aqua Terra 38 with brushed bracelet option.

Oris: Waiting for right dial color for me in 38mm big crown.

There are so many watches out there that would be perfect for me with one small tweak. Luckily, I am more than happy with some imperfection, and I can save a lot of money on watches that get crossed off the list.

They would have sold a lot more with a 20mm lug width and true 36mm diameter imo. 36mm is my ideal watch size, and I still find the current 36mm explorer a little too small.

I would be so pumped for this

Breguet numerals work on these type of watches but will always have the problem of being too directly derivative of another brand’s designs.

I understand that other lower-priced companies beat Rolex on many specs, but in my opinion the Rolex bracelet and clasp are lightyears ahead of any of the aforementioned competitors.

Sometimes, the problem with size is comfort not aesthetics. I can wear a massive G Shock comfortably but find most watches >48mm lug-to-lug just aren't comfortable enough for me to wear regularly.
