At first glance I thought the man on the right, SEAC Colon-Lopez, was wearing a Rolex Explorer II black dial, but the end links aren't right. I make it to be a Tudor Black Bay Pro. Thoughts?

Maybe think it's the same watch he was wearing here. Heard him speak at this event. Pretty cool to see a legit rise through the ranks operator now at the top. Have never met him personally, nor worked under him.

Also might be a small watch enthusiast, pretty sure this is a Panerai

I don't know him either, but have friends who do or have served with him. He's a major league door kicker, that's for sure!

I think you're right!

Could be a Breitling or tag also maybe? See some octagonal-ish case and more old school bezel like Tag from the late 90's early aughts. And based off when he was tactical level PJ Team Lead, that also makes sense. Might even be unit purchased/issued. 🤘🏻🤙🏻😎

·

Looks like a TH Aquaracer Series watch, that bezel is fairly distinctive.

Unit purchase is possible, especially given the units he served in.

I got my fair share of gear issued, but never a watch!

Yea I was thinking maybe the same too? Hard to tell. PJ supply dudes and others get almost carte blanche to get whatever they want, as long as it's "justified".....and justification is usually along the lines of available now, tax free, and it works. (Rule No. 1, Always Look Cool, goes unspoken....🤏🏻😎🤙🏻)

And kudos to them, their pipeline is no joke.

These days it's mostly Garmin style crazy stuff, or ABC Protreks.

Then there's the odd weirdos still asking for Marathon, CWC, Seiko or other, smaller mil friendly micros. At least for most EOD dudes. And as always, it pays to either be friends with, or be in supply..... 😂.

Higher up the tier list I've seen everything from Timex Ironmans, Tudors, lots of Tudors, Resco, Sangin and some Rolex. Even a JLC.

Funny thing is with current world state, seeing a move away from units buying latest and greatest Garmin Tactical doohickey, and going back to vanilla altimeter/Barometer/compass tough Solars lol.

·

Looks like a tag aqua racer by the bracelet to me

I agree with @SurferJohn

It looks like a Tag Aquaracer

Both pics seem to have a big second hand pointed at 12. Aquaracer Chrono?

Yeah, same thought crossed my mind and between the bezel and that bump at 9 o’clock that looks like a crownguard’s symmetric twin, I think we have figured it out, now let’s go ask him 😂

Isn’t everything purchased by the government tax-free anyways?

It's not a black bay, you can see it has an octagonal bezel

Why are his sleeves rolled so high?

Yea, but if you are purchasing local or COTs (commercial off the shelf) the company has to agree to abide by tax free. Most do, but you never know.

He was my Command Chief when I was stationed at Hurlburt Field in Florida, the home of Air Force Special Operations Command. I am not a Special Operator by any means, just a humble rotary wing maintainer that has had the pleasure to work on both HH-60Gs and Ws in the Combat Search and Rescue world and the CV-22 in Air Force Special Operations. I can tell you no one in the AF is being issued analog watches. It is Garmin and other modern smart watches that Airmen are wearing. If you see an analog watch, especially mechanical, you can be almost certain that person is a watch enthusiast.

I'd agree, with some caveats.

Marathon and some other analog styles are in fact on the GSA schedule, and the quartz variants are cheaper than the Garmin, so there is a possibility. It all comes down to if one is willing to jump through the hoops, justify to command and then see. Usually trying to be proactive about saving money, not needing to worry about OPSEC, and having something with a user replaceable battery can tip the scales. 🤏🏻

Also who knows about pre 2010 for the USAF. Now with BARs equipment program (Battlefield Airman Replenishment System) for program/issued stuff things are a bit more restrictive. Previously it was straight outta the Book of Judges....every supply guy did what was right in his own eyes... IFYKYK 🤪

Or it could have been bought at a Base Exchange. Seen TH, #LongJohns , and others before.

I do not know if Tag does unit purchase programs like Tudor, Bremont, etc al.

In a prior life I did industrial sales. I still remember saying: “You’re government right? Can you send me that certificate so I can click the “no tax” box without my billing department yelling at me?”

I feel your pain. I always tried to do bulk unit orders not in uniform when I was in supply. And I would call ahead and make sure I have all the things needed to make checkout easy. Also use the same person as much as possible. Always hate accidentally being that guy with all the checkout problems, especially when it's like $1K of pvc pipes, e-tape, cement, tile, mousetraps, and wire.........🤔🫣

Thankfully, I wasn’t in retail and I was already selling to state and local government agencies. So when some guy from the Coast Guard called me out of the blue, I was prepared.
