Deciding on 39mm vs 42mm Zulu time

Hi there! I currently own the Longines Zulu time 42mm on the strap. With the release of the 39mm, I decided to head down to the boutique to get hands on with it.

With the 42mm, the bracelet is completely out of the question, but I feel that the strap fits perfectly. With the new 39mm, the impression that the watch gives is totally different. It feels much more sleek compared to the sturdy and hefty feel of the 42mm.

Just wanted some opinions on sizing. I’m sure this has been posted many times before. Which do you think fits my wrist better?

Here are some comparisons to other watches on my wrist.

Your slender wrists are really better suited to 39mm IMO. Also, you might try some red nail polish, I like my ladies classy.

·

39 for sure.

I have the 42 on strap. It is a big but reasonable size. The 39 will look better on most wrists.

Ill try to sneak some from my fiancée when she’s not looking.

39 mm fit you very well. In my opinion the diameter isn't what makes or breaks it's the lug-to-lug distance. If the lugs protrude over the wrist edges, the watch is to big.

·

There isn’t a lot between them on my wrist; although I prefer the 39mm

39 all the way. I sold my 42 a few months back because it was just too big. Now that the 39 is available I’m putting it back on my list.

39

Because Longines usually have abnormally long lug to lug length the 39mm is preferred

·

I prefer the 39mm on your wrist. From your photos, the bb58 and Zulu time 39 look the most well sized.

·

In terms of fit 39mm would probably be your best best but even at the size you need to pay attention to the lug length and make sure you don’t have any over hang. Personally I think even the bigger watches where fine but it just depends on how you prefer it.

I tried the 39 Zulu Time on yesterday and loved it.

The 42 still works for me, but i prefer the fit of the 39 on my wrist.

For your wrist I would go for the 39 🙂

39 wow does really look nice on a brown strap.

yup! the lug to lug between the 42mm zulu and the 39mm zulu surprisingly is only a 2mm difference (47mm vs 49mm). Hence why I didn't think that it would be that much of a difference in terms of wearability. But the 42mm dial vs 39mm totally changes the impression of the watch imo. If you love the look but want something a little bit understated on the wrist, the 39mm is the way to go.

Unless you obviously can't pull off a 42mm watch, the 39mm is the only choice.

I would want the watch on a leather strap. But unfortunately the boutique I was at did not have any 39mm with the strap on hand. Now I am kinda torn between the bracelet and the strap, The 39mm on the bracelet fits my wrist compared to the 42mm bracelet. The only way I could pull off the 42mm watch is if it's on the leather strap.

Yup! I feel the same way. The 42mm is only viable for me if it's on the leather strap. On the bracelet, it is way too big. The 39mm however fits my wrist nicely on the bracelet. Unfortunately, the boutique I was at did not have the 39mm leather strap version on hand for me to try the fit.

I usually lean more towards straps instead of bracelets, especially with the Zulu time as it comes with the clever deployant micro adjust clasp which I am a big fan of. The lugs between the two is surprisingly small. (47mm vs 49mm). Even thickness they are very similar at 13.5mm vs 13.9mm.

I think it basically comes down to how you want it to be on your wrist. If you love the look but want something understated, the 39mm is the way to go. But if you want a little more wrist presence, you cant go wrong with the 42mm.

Unless your wrist can only pull off the 39mm then that's probably your only choice.

Thanks for the reply. I can only pull off the 42mm if it is on the leather strap, the bracelet is way too big. However, the 39mm does fit me nicely with the bracelet. Unfortunately, the boutique I was at did not have a 39mm strap variant on hand for me to try the fit. I also posted the question because the dimensions between the two are not that far apart. The lug to lug is 47mm vs 49mm and the thickness is 13.5mm vs 13.9mm

39mm looks better as most longines watches have long lugs.

·

I think that the 39mm is a better size for your wrist.

Yep the slightly larger dial and bezel on the 42mm make it more "proud". Also, both the 39mm and the 42mm have the same lug shape, semi straight.

If the Zulu time had a bracelet female end links and tool less micro adjust it would be much easier to wear on a bracelet
