Another day another trip to Don Quiote in Tokyo! This time it’s the Mega Donk at Shibuya! Part 2 in this mini series!

Hello WatchCrunch community!

I was in Shibuya with some friends who were looking to buy sweets/chocolate/souvenirs. They wanted to go to Donki. Perfect time for me to leave them to the labyrinth that is Donki and check out the watch section!

The watch section is on the 4th floor at this outlet.

Surprisingly, the selection is very sparse. Maybe it’s all sold out. But the selection is very small.

Only standouts are the Omega Seamaster Railmaster on the denim/leather NATO

Image

Priced at ¥298,000/USD$1980/SGD$2700.

Some speedmaster are available at a really good price too

Image

¥398,000/USD$2650/SGD$3610

There is also this Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra GMT for ¥528,000/USD$3510/SGD$4800.

Other than that, there is nothing else of note.

Here are some photos of other watch brands.

Frank Muller (Very small selection)

I guess this just a cultural thing but this surprised me how the watches are presented….. my first reaction was that they were all fake. Not how I imagined high end watches to be presented…. It reminds me of a novelty shop in Blackpool. For the non U.K. peeps that’s a Northern Seaside town selling with many shops selling souvenirs

So your gonna have to break it down Barney style, i.e. - explain in simple terms, what exactly is a donk?

Using my context clues I'm guessing slang for some type of super big clearance store?

Kinda like Dollar General or other dollar stores here in the US?

Either way, pretty cool, and I would agree, wild way to display expensive watches lol.

I have updated it with the original post where I explained what Don Quiote (Donki) is. It's basically this giant megamart. Imagine a real-life amazon store. That is basically what it is. But the way the store is presented, it looks like a dollar store. A 4 - 8 floor gigantic dollar store, that sells products from super cheap brands to luxury brands and luxury watches, all in one store.

Mega Donk is what the store is called in Shibuya. But it is part of the chain of stores called Don Quiote.

One of my dream vacations would be traveling to Japan and going watch and vintage toy shopping.

Haha! This is probably only a Don Quiote thing. If you walk into a proper watch retailer like Ishida in Shinjuku or a proper AD, the product is presented in a much better way. The IWC boutique here in Tokyo is beautiful. I've been there multiple times and the staff is super helpful and the service is outstanding.

That is why I decided to make a small series regarding this specific chain of stores. It's quite fascinating.

Ahhh makes sense now thanks for explaining to me both directly and in your other responses 👍🏻😁

I find luxury items presented in such a way more approachable--even attainable.

A boutique will give you a better experience and assurance that you're getting a bit more for what you're buying but sometimes you just wanna casually look and not have to dress up for it y'know.

I bought my seamaster at a Donki in Tokyo. Very cool, different experience than a normal AD. They sold me the watch with the white leather box with red ribbon. That was the box that matched the serial number. I have a youtube channel on which I highlight different watches in my collection. I’ve had a number of comments saying the watch is fake because it didn’t come with the wooden box. Omega customer service said the AD chooses which box they sell the watch. Anybody else have similar experience?
