Casio MTP1302PD-2A2V…Hype and here to stay?

Released in Europe and North America in Jan 2023…already upselling on secondhand market

How long will this color be the hype?

Until somebody chooses the next color, probably later this year? I don't mind the Tiffany blue dial craze and I should probably get one to represent this time period. I've been looking at them anyway. What's your take?

·

I am a fan of bringing color into my watch collection. The Tiffany color will always look good in the summer. Having said that, I do feel the hype will eventually fade and as you said, a new color replacement. My guess is red or burgundy

·

…or maybe something like this. Imagine the Rolex OP or Omega Aquaterra in this color

Not my cup of tea. It's hype. I would pay 30.00 for it if I was interested. It's obscene the price on the secondary market. But if it churns your butter go for it.

Cheers!

I bought a green dial one at MSRP. To me it's similar to the Duro, this looks to be a great value from Casio. I think the hype will die quickly because it is a $60 watch after all. Similar to the craze when the Timex Q was originally released, it didn't last very long. And it's not like Casio is going to hold back production the way Omega did with the moonswatch. They will mass produce until the cows come home and everyone has one.

·

I agree, but for now I think it’s gaining traction in the market because of its unavailability. You can start to see it on the secondary market. There no doubt that the Tiffany color is still hot until one of the majors introduces a new hype color that everyone will go crazy about.

Just don't spend anything over retail on this. Those resale prices are crazy, almost on par with the crazy MoonSwatch markups from not too long ago when they dropped.

·

I already does not like no more tyffanie blue dial.

·

JOMW on YouTube did a review of this Casio model a few days ago. While I'm generally a fan of Casio, the markups for this one are insane! Nice lookin' piece, but not worth a penney over normal MSRP IMHO

·

Sav… Thanks for the info

Probably another year or two. Grand Seiko is releasing a manual wound one in April and I kinda like it. Yeah I’d definitely not buy any of these above retail because of the dial color, which is my rule of thumb with hype. If I can get it retail fine but won’t spend a penny over just because everyone wants one. The Robin blue OP going for 22k and up is redonk. Even at $6k, it’s over priced.

Want this on Seiko sharp edge 😍

Tiffany blue dials are all over Aliexpress for less $$ than what's being demanded for this Casio.

·

I like colorful watches. Though this one doesn't do anything 4x-retail special for me, I feel bad for the guy with $40 for a watch who can't get it because someone decided that scalping was okay.

·

Agreed… Unfortunately we are in the times a $40 watch is susceptible to the gray market. The Tiffany color is very popular and all the manufacturers seem to be capitalizing on the trend. Fortunately, there are countless options at every price point for us watch enthusiasts that want to add color to their collection.

Until I know I can buy one without the thing being touched by a damn flipper.... Shrugs
