Fake F-91W from ebay

F-91W purchased from ebay. Unfortunately, this watch seems to be defective and possibly fake. For one, pressing the menu button does not cycle through the menus; it just goes to the alarm screen. There are also other errors; once I've left the watch alone for a while the buttons make different errors. I've done this several times, and a new problem arises every time. Also the U below RESIST seems much bigger than on the original, according to the videos I have watched.

I must agree, this just doesn't look as crisp as it should. The ghost images on the LCD seem wrong too. It's easy enough to open the case back and see if the module looks right.

Does it pass the test of pressing and holding the right button till the screen reads CASIo?

I agree with @OscarKlosoffWatch. You could also see that the letter U under "RESIST" seems do be too big and blurred.

I know it happens, but I still have to wonder who in the blue f**k would bootleg an F-91W.

I don’t know, but that person makes me feel really, really rich.

And, I mean, if you’re going to bootleg a watch anyway, why not go for something that can put actual money in your pocket? That’s the part that really gets me.

I guess sometimes the crime is the point.

Yup, I saw this after posting, and this is a good tell.

And come on people, you counterfeit this because 3 million real ones a year are sold. That's a big pie from which to take a piece. Lots of people will buy these online on a whim and most people will just sort of accept it when they get taken. In the fountain pen world, it's the same: $3 Chinese pens get knocked off. Do a big ticket item and the customer is more likely to scrutinize and attempt to get justice. Plus, it's just easier to produce a low ticket item, especially in bulk.

Hm, the case shape looks wrong to me, and the position of the main digits

Couple bucks on Aliexpress will get you a new one of those.

These are selling for $15 on Amazon right now. How much were you saving by being on ebay?!?

Yeah it shows the CASIo, but it also shows the CASIOo when on the alarm screen pressing the button that should chirp the alarm, which a real Casio wouldn't. I've read the fakes today often have the CASIo thing, which I guess is easy to program.

I mean yeah, it's a $20 watch, but apparently fakes are still produced and sold.

Yeah I know. I've requested a refund on ebay, and I know the seller doesn't communicate which means ebay will most likely validate the refund. I've ordered a new F-91W from a local official Casio dealer.

I'm in Norway, ordering on Amazon is very expensive for me. Shipping and import taxes would cost more than the watch. I've ordered a new one from a local official Casio dealer for just over $20 or so, which is a good price.

I paid about $11 on ebay with free shipping, but with import tax on top of that. I bought it fully expecting it could be fake, but I decided why not try and see. Most likely I'll get a refund without having to return the watch, or if they require I send it back I'll just keep it as an acceptable loss and have it to compare to the genuine one I've since ordered. Returning this thing isn't worth the gas cost of going to the post office.
