Expectations vs reality

I finally found the Mission to Mercury and I have to say….I love it. If you expect an Omega, just don’t get it. It is light, the crystal scratches just by breathing slightly towards it, BUT it is expected for a Swatch. Saw countless reviews of people saying that it’s garbage, poor quality etc. I have to disagree. For a watch nerd (like me) it is a fun and versatile (depending on which version you get) little watch that happens to also be in collaboration with Omega. I can honestly bet that, if it wouldn’t have had the “Omega” logo and “Speedmaster” name, most of the people wouldn’t throw so much 💩 at it. If you want a metal version of it, just get a decent fake one from good old Aliexpress, a Pagani homage, mix them up and, VOILA!

All in all, this watch has a charm, unmatched by any other Swatch, probably because the Speedy is my all time favorite. Subjective or not, I enjoy it a lot and to everyone that plans to grab one, and like the concept, I’d say…

JUST DO IT!

The problem is that it is virtually impossible, due to the extremely restrictive availability, to just do it.I live in a major US city and still have to travel about 250 miles just to see one of these.

I had to wait 2 years so i can get it. Since I live in Romania, it is not available. Had to catch an internship in Florence to be able to get it:))

I was lucky with the timing.

I like it. I like the concept. I just think Swatch should have got Casio to build it for them....... 😁

·

Agreed, I love my Moonswatch and I think its a really fun and enjoyable version of a serious and historical watch. A proper collectors pieces in my opinion

PREACH

·

It does looks cool, but Swatch ruined it for me with their offline-only bullshit

Sorry, Swatches are cheaply made, low quality watches thst were meant to be inexpensive and disposable. That is all they are.

·

One can still enjoy it. As i said, you should expect a swatch when you buy one

Cool! I’ll check Amazon since I already have some light scratches.

I agree with that. But that means that they are far overpriced and the quality control is lacking.

IMO, The Mission to Mercury is one of the best-looking MoonSwatches🔥. Amazon sells clear screen protection that helps keep scratches away.

This is the biggest problem in my opinion... People have to travel just to get one, or pay a stupid flipper price (not worth it) or just wait till you might be in a place that sells them.

The looking for one is part of the fun. I just got a snoppy, lucky but had fun dropping in to stores on my European vaction

So are 99% of Casios, but nobody seems to hold that against them.

Casio doesn't over price itself and slap an Omega logo on their watches.

·

I think most people would agree with you that these are desirable products. The complaint is that they are just overpriced and unreasonably hard to get.

That wasn't the complaint I called out in your earlier post...

But you're free to rationalize your MoonSwatch dislike however you like. 😉

Ok, Swatch is slapping a "collaboration" label on a US$50.00 watch, charging $250.00 minimum for it and making it almost impossible to get. Does Casio do the same?

That wasn't the argument I presented regarding Casio, you have changed the complaint rather than address what I posted.

As for the collaboration with Omega, they are intended to be novelty collectables that you can wear. The intent wasn't to produce a cheap mass market watch.

The watches are far from "impossible" to get, but I see that coming up a lot. I think Aesop had something to say about that a couple thousand years ago... Something about a fox and grapes.

MoonSwatch watches are fun to collect(my collection is very small) and occasionally wear. They are not a serious watches, just a fun watch.

That is the argument that I have always made about the MoonSwatch, that it was a blatant cash grab by the Swatch Group, just the same as MVMT or Daniel Wellington selling inexpensive Chinese quartz watches as "luxury timepieces". And yes, the MoonSwatches are very hard, and in some cases, nearly impossible to obtain. If people want them, fine, but recognize what they are; a cheap watch thst resembles a much better, more expensive watch and not worth the initial, let alone the secondary, asking price.

It is pretty clear that you don’t like the moonswatch. :)) I don’t understand what it has to do with MVMT and DW; kinda unfair comparison.

Anyway, it’s not that deep.

Love the watch, HATE Swatch for not selling online. Would love one, but very much doubt I'll ever have one.
