Next luxury watch

I have a very hard choice to make and would love to hear your thoughts. I’m probably going to get a new luxury watch and currently torn between 5 different pieces. Which one would you go for out of the four (see attached pictures):

1. The new Summer Blue 39.5mm Omega Planet Ocean (pic from Omega’s site but I tried on wrist and liked it)

2. The Green Cartier Santos Medium

3. The Tag Heuer Carrera Glassbox 39mm

4. A neo-vintage 1995 Speedmaster (my birth year)

5. A Green Rolex Oyster Perpetual 41mm (not pictured, but I tried on wrist and liked it)

Tag Heuer Glass Box, and it’s not even close. Such a beautiful watch and a real conversation starter.

But if you want a second pick for good measure, the Santos gets my vote.

My choice would be the Summer Blue Planet Ocean, for a couple of reasons.

Firstly, I own the Aqua Terra Summer Blue & I know just how striking the dial is. Although the Planet Ocean has a completely different dial & a deeper shade of blue, I'm sure it's just as stunning.

Secondly, I have a Speedmaster, a Santos 100 & a couple of OPs in my collection, so none of the others appeal to me.

Were I to have to choose between the others on your list, I'd go for the OP green dial as I'm not a huge fan of the current Cartier Santos models, nor I'm I a huge fan of the Speedmaster.

Whatever you choose, you'll have a great watch. Enjoy.👍

No. 1: No, too much blue going on.

No. 2: Cartier, not enough contrast between the case and strap. Plus it looks like chrome plated bling.

No. 3 & 4: I'm torn between these two.

No. 5: It's just another Rolex. 😛

Planet Ocean then the Santos

·

Partly comes down to what other watches you have and your budget. If you’ve a fairly diverse collection already, the birth year watch sounds like a great idea. If you’re covered for daily / GADA watches, the Santos would be a really cool piece to get. If this is your first luxury piece, and you have an opportunity to buy the Rolex at an AD, then it’s a hard one to beat.

Every watch you have listed has its own appeal which makes it extremely difficult to choose. Do you currently own other luxury watches? If so, what styles are they? Diver, Chronograph, Dress, All around(GADA)? At this point the way the market is, I would buy whichever one "Speaks" to you most. Neo vintage prices have come down quite a bit. I would also suggest you buy a brand or style that you do not currently own. You cannot go wrong with any of the above. I have a vintage Speedmaster that I recently purchased and after about a month I realized there was an issue with the movement. I had to leave it with Omega for a 2-4 month vacation so just remember to consider service time with vintage or neo vintage. You get the vintage vibe with a new Glassbox and they look incredible!!

I have a pretty diverse collection with multiple luxury pieces. And can get the OP in an AD.

1 Speedmaster (you don't know when one will pop up again)

2 PO just awesome

3 Santos the original

4 Tag. Not my style

5 Rolex not my cup of tea, because of brand image

Agree; 3 or 4 depending on the rest of your collection

·
  1. Speedmaster

  2. Seamaster

  3. Tag Heuer

  4. Cartier

If you are able to find a Rolex, I’d put that as #1.5.

·

What’s in your current collection? These are all quite different.

·

Probably be a couple of years trying to get the Rolex. I would do the speedy or the glassbox

·

The Omega Planet Ocean puts all of those to shame.

·

The PO is lovely and something different for Omega in that kind, especially with the closed case back. The Tag is nice but not in that colour personally.

·

Santos.

·

The glass box smashes them all out of the park. Not even close. Speedy second.

·

Whoa, I think you need to first decide if you want a diver, Chronograph, or dress watch. 😁This said - if was choosing for me I would get either the 1995 Speedmaster (the patina of the lume is pretty sweet) or the new Heuer glass box (I think a very attractive chronograph). But this is only because I have soooo many divers. If you don't have any divers, the 39mm planet ocean in that blue is very sweet .

·

I would suggest either 1 or 2, but you can't go wrong with either 3 or 4. 😂😂. They are all beautiful.

Personally I think I would lean towards the Omega Seamaster.

·

I have a 39.5mm PO and it’s just perfect in every way. I haven’t seen the blue one but from the proportions alone I’d go with that one.

·

I would go with the Santos, but only if you are ok with scratches. From what I have heard, they scratch pretty easily.

·

Cartier is my pick, but those are all excellent choices. Do you have any context with regards to the rest of your collection? The OP and the Cartier don’t have complications, but you’ve also got two chronos on your list. The OP and Cartier are more eaily daily wears, in my opinion.

·

Depends on what is already in your collection.

If you don’t have a Santos, you probably need one.

Given your choices, I assume you already have a Rolex. If not, go get yourself your first Rolex.

That Planet Ocean is amazing. More so in person. Beautiful. So that would be my choice because I have the other two and a speedy.

Speedy would be next on my list.

Tag last.

·
  1. Tried on the Summer Blue PO, didn’t feel the 39mm size worked with the bracelet, on my wrist it looked thick and small

  2. I chose the large size blue dial Santos a few years ago.

  3. Bought my first and last Heurer watch more than 50 years ago.

  4. Finally purchased Omega DSOM watch one late morning, spontaneous buy.

  5. While I bought and sold off my modern Rolex watches during the late 80s, this might be the watch from your list that I could buy personally. Would prefer some similar dial on a 41mm Datejust, after all this post is just for fun.

·

I have a thing for the Omega, but the Tag would make me pause.

·

Planet Ocean or Glassbox

·

I'm a speedy guy so it's got to be the 1955 speedmaster for me.

Birth year watches are always cool. I say go for the speedy. I just turned 30 myself, and am looking for a birth year watch too.
