Gotta admit, this feels quality (overpriced tho)

Went into AD not for watches and while I was waiting he goes, “someone just sold us this 116520”. Unlike the newer Sub I posted about, this actually feels quality like great quality. Just not the $22k they’re listing it at tho lol. Bezel also looks like it’s pitting too. Bracelet seemed in good shape. Watch seems like it should be 5-7k range. The brand of Rolex really has that marketing on lock for secondary prices to be that high. They had a 2023 Aqua Terra which felt just as good and listed for 5k.

The case of my 1988 GS Quartz is miles better than that , don't buy into the Rolex hype.

Rolex prices are coming down. It's starting to become a buyers market. Online dealers are offering some nice discounts with 6 year warranties for 2k-3k less than the inflated price.

Oh dude don’t worry. I don’t like Rolex. I don’t buy into their hype. They’re a good brand yes but my Omegas are better in terms of quality, finishing and movements. Just like Grand Seiko. Rolex are well built, but not the best. Their marketing is what people buy into. I swear it’s the logo, people just want to be “kings and queens”. To that I say why be a king when you can be a Greek god? ♎️

Earlier today someone posted a Pagani Design Daytona for $30 and said it felt high quality. I wonder what would happen if we did a blind test between a Rolex and a PD and see what people liked.

Agree! Your 1988 GS Quartz is much better than a corresponding Rolex.

I bet many people who own Rolex will be very pissed off when they pick the Pagani or any other similar built watch instead of the Rolex. Marketing doesn’t make the watch. So many other great brands out there that make equal quality and beyond what the crown makes.

That’s exactly what I’m getting at. It’d be an interesting experiment for the next video for folks who are content creators on YouTube.

It is lovely no doubt, is it worth the price ? To some yes, to others no, I am sitting on the fence.

·

Marketing on lock 🔒 for sure!

·

I am not going to offer an opinion on the price, glad I am not hooked on Rollies and Daytonas but even 40 years ago steel Daytonas were slightly hard to source at MSRP, you had to put down a thousand here in Toronto and wait 3-4 months. That is a little beat up but will have fans not at 22k but seller is going to profit.

🤣 This is not why many of us love collecting watches. I’ve handled a Pagani Sub, and besides the fact it’s not quite as well finished (super reps are built/finished better) the fact it’s a glorified fake takes away any and all value for me personally — I’d rather proudly own a Seiko SKX. That would apply to not only their luxury copies, but their copies of affordable brands like Seiko. Just throwing out the phrase ‘it’s all just marketing’ is lazy, especially when every luxury brand invests substantially into marketing (Omega having most of the biggest marketing pushes in recent memory); there’s a reason most collectors have a Rolex or two in the collection, even among ‘higher-end’ collections with watches considered ‘higher end’ than Rolex. I’m brand-agnostic by the way, even though Rolex happens to be my favorite brand, purely subjectively.

All of which just highlights that, at the end of the day, it's just a watch. And a pretty average watch, too. No precious metals. No redeeming features. When your gut tells you it's a 5-7k watch... that's because it is. Watches like this aren't worth what people ask for them, and the market is only kept alive by people who get sucked in by FOMO and/or want to flex and/or something that causes them to spend irrationally.

·

I'm pretty sure like 80% of the price of Rolex watches is for the brand name.

·

Price aside, I just don't have the same love for the Daytona many seem to. Chronographs in general don't appeal, and this has no extra lure than any other chrono.

·

I will say this, that Daytona was used. It wasn't an "investment". Whoever brought that in actually wore it and used it. I want to say it was loved. But it was traded in. I don't agree with the price. I think everyone is crazy with their prices.

·

I don’t think it’s worth it at all, sorry but that bezel is weathered.

I would never pay over retail, no offence to anyone. When you spend that kinda of money for a watch you want your own story to be written with it!
