What about logo on dial?

Over 360 votes on my last poll! I am blown away by the engagement guys. Thank you all so much for participating in this collective build of a dress watch. We stick to the dial. Previous poll question asked if you want a date or not, and if so at what position. 163 votes (45%) on no date, and 133 votes (37%) on date at 6. The rest voted for date at 3 or 4,5. Perhaps, like one of you guys suggested, it would have Been better to divide the poll into 2. Yes or no first and then if needed what position. We keep the date out of the dial for now. Now, what about logo on dial? ***PLEASE understand this is a theoretical question. It is not the actual logotype on the images. I am trying to understand your general view of logos on the dial.*** What would you prefer of the following;

Logotype symbol at 12, but brand name at the 6. Balance and symmetry.

Thank you Hrethgir ! You have any watch example of this?

Just posted 4 watches like that. It's fairly common to have that style. Rolex does it too, although they like to put an entire paragraph at 6 to balance the Crown at 12, I guess.

Since your logo seems to be a stylized version of your brand, it seems like it would be redundant to have both the logo and the brand name on the dial. I think you should pick one. So, I would choose B or C. It doesn't matter to me which one it is.

It's hard to say without seeing the actual logo and name, size, length of words, any text above 6:00, etc., will all make a difference.

Also, 55% of the vote was pro-date. Maybe this should have been two separate date polls, one for yes or no, and a second poll for placement if needed.

Thank you man.

I realise now that my question need clarification. I did not really mean the text like "Automatic, 100m or model name". I was refering to Brand name and logotype symbol.

Many watch brands have both a name and a symbol. Should the name and symbol be together at 12, or would you prefer only just brand name (text)? Or maybe only the symbol?

Rolex does brand name at 12 and model name at 6. And the Hamilton I posted has that also. Hamilton at 12 and Khaki Automatic at 6. So I'm saying you should go brand name at 12, model name at 6 to balance it. Kind of sounds like you don't want anything at the 6 though. If that's the case, brand at 12,and that's all. Having the brand and model at 12 with nothing at 6 makes the dial too top heavy to the eye.

You are absolutely right. It all depends on the logotype design. But we are not done building, so I think the process will get us to a point where we will be able to make a better decision. At this stage Im just wondering if there should be a logo and text, or only logo/text.

About the separate poll idea, Yes! I realise that now. Lets get back to the date decision with two alternatives when the build is getting closer to finished.

Personally I think thats the best combination, brand at 12 and text (model) at 6.

I agree, balanced and simple.

Definitely not D, or you'll just come across like every AliExpress cheapie out there.

My vote's going to be very biased as a graphic designer and a minimalist. Emblem only on the dial. Everything else on the case back. If it's a display caseback then. Emblem at 12... Name at 6.

·

It depends on the logo and type face. It should blend in or not distract from the dial design.

A or B

The less cluttered the dial...the more powerful the impact.

It's like in a board meeting...you want to listen to the director who carefully chooses their words, not the one constantly having something to say just to say it.

With this said, I see why you went for option B. I take that as you prefer clear titles of the participants in the board meeting ;)

It really all depends for me with the big numbers on the dial the sinn 556 looks ideal where as with the aqua tera with such a large dial a few lines of text and the logo along with the brand fits perfectly. I think omega probably do this best of all the triangle of text on the speedy below the logo balances out the subdial at six. I like to have the logo and the brand name under the 12 and something but not much above the six normally. Put a few watches together from parts from eBay and they look silly without any thing below the 12 to my eyes

The most powerful logos in the world say it with just the logo...think the Nike swoosh...
