New humorous watch brand, yay or nay?

You are all such a wonderful source of inspiration and insights. Thank you all for answering my polls! You are my heroes. Your answers help me navigate in my journey building a microbrand for watches. Now I got a fairly odd poll question for you guys, as I am trying to package a new brand together for the upcoming dress watch we are collectively building. What about the new brand name WAGB - We Are Going Bankrupt? Do you like it? (DISCLAIMER: This brand name is serious its not a joke - the intention is to make timekeeping even more fun and to push through the noise out there in the watch world)

It's a nice joke or meme. Nothing I would spend money on.

Not even though the watch looks amazing? ;)

I voted "Yay!" because it's your brand and you can call it whatever you want to call it. But, I would really need to see what your product offering are to make (what would in my mind be) an informed decision on the name. The watches need to live up to the name without looking too gimmicky. I will spend money on unique (aka gimmicky) watches, but only up to a point and only based on my perceived value of the watch. It's why I don't own a Moonswatch and probably won't own Scuba.

Also, the name itself may be limiting unless you intend to market your watches only to watch nerds. Normal people may wonder why they would go broke if they buy a watch from you.

The watches are quality builts. Nothing cheap. The first watch I am building has these specs:

  • SW200-1 Movement

  • 316L stainless steel

  • Premium quality clasp with Micro adjustment on the fly

  • Quick release springbars on oyester steel bracelet with Female endlinks

  • 100m WR

  • BGW9 Super-Luminova lumon

  • Diamond cut hands and brass handfumed dial

  • Sapphire crystal (3 layers AR inside)

Could be confusing. Not sure I'd be happy buying online with the receivers waiting to take my money. I like names like Mr Jones Christopher Ward ect. How about Geoffrey? Get him to the Greek reference.

I get that. You Really have to show social proof if you have a brand name like this. But the name awoke your interest didnt it? 😜

Dive watch brand called ‘ Going Under’.

You’re welcome, I accept free watches. No syringe hands. XD

·

I voted yay, although I do agree with the comments noting the negative connotations of bankrupt. I think a humorous brand name would draw attention, but perhaps something a bit less negative, like Limited Time Offer, or something along similar lines.

You should be an employee! That is a really fun and creative idea!

I have a lot of different ideas in this theme. ”We are going bananas” etcetc

Thanks for your vote! It is only a name. The value of a brand comes from the service and products, in my view. People Associate based on experience. Going bankrupt i of course nothing good 😊 but the idea is just to break through and get visible.

I have very reasonable rates.

I see it similar to the Chevrolet Nova car. Calling the car NoVa, which, with a space in the middle, means “it doesn’t go or run” in Spanish, did not do well with consumers, especially spanish speakers. Although I get the joke and like the looks of the watch, it would give me pause in buying the watch, if I learned what WAGB stood for. If you’re going broke, how good could the watches be. It’s almost a subconscious reaction.

It’s not as catchy as MUFF Diver

And WAG is normally reserved for Wives and Girlfriends of Ballers so there might be a little confusion.

For 20% of Profits you can Use IchiBrand…

I think the name is fun and memorable.

Pierre, mon ami,

Put a black or green dial on that and you have a customer.

I agree it would catch some attention to the name. Personally, I would stop at the attention part. But what do I know, right? 😜

Okey 🙂 Even if this would be the actual name appearing on the e-shop? 😉

This is something I think that will work on T-shirts or apparel like DBTK. On watches though... hmmm, works more like MVMT! 😭

Okey 😉 I get your point. I could be selling T-shirts for 499 usd and have a watch as a free GIFT 😄 hahah

I voted "No". While it's a clever name for a sport or dive watch, I wouldn't buy a dress watch with it. Dress has the connotation of being more formal and while I choose to wear dress watches for all occasions, "We Are Going Bankrupt" is not something I'd wear to a business meeting, wedding, or any other formal setting.

Thanks for this suggestion. We got "Going Under" and "NoVa" at the moment 😜 Keep the suggestions coming! I like it!

The idea is that we go bankrupt because we offer too much value for our customers 😄 Na.. its only a joke, the brand name has no real value. The product (watches) and the service do.

Exactly; at the end of the day, the quality and value of your product will speak for itself no matter the name. Once people experience it, they’ll be hooked. 🙏

Its an even race.. but it seems we got a winner.. (I mean loser)
