The long hall watch

I'm a day late but I wanted to post my new watch to my friends on WatchCrunch. I got my first call for my first Rolex, an Explorer 40. It was a hard choice with all the new releases but I wanted something that would be timeless. I feel I picked the perfect one for me because I knew going into it I wouldn't want to sell it.

My questions to you watch lovers, what is the watch you sought to buy to keep and pass on and why?

As someone who think the explorer should only be in 36mm I gotta say…that fits your wrist very well. The explorer is always the right choice. Congrats!!

Thank you! I can't say I disagree with you, before the 40mm release I was going for the 36mm.

Breitling Navitimer chronograph . It was my dad's favourite watch and his one is with another family member.

I think my Speedmaster is the only watch I’ve purchased (as opposed to a gift) that I think will be really interesting by the time I die. It’s just one of those watches that gets cooler with age. As time goes on and newer editions come out, the one you have gets closer to the original so to speak.

My father was never into watches but I'd wager it will be what ever one they remember you wearing.

That's an interesting point, as each edition comes out you do have the one closer to the original.

Nice! How long was the wait? Earlier this year I waited just over 3 months for my Explorer 36mm.

That's a great reason.

I put my order in right after it was announced. So a little under 6 months.

Nice! One day I want my Explorer to go to my granddaughter, who went with me to pick it up.

Thats a timeless piece that she will definitely enjoy the memory of.

Great choice, the Explorer was in my top three I was considering when I bought my Rolex.

Enjoy!

Thanks! Which one did you end up going with?

Congrats! Excellent watch. I buy all my watches with an intent to keep and pass on. I suppose many of my affordables may not last but all others I want my wife and child/children to enjoy or benefit from.

Congrats on your new watch ! Looks great 👍🏻

As to the watch I want to pass on: I’ve got two Rolex , one OP blue dial and one Explorer , both of them 36mm. I’ve got two daughters. Done ✅

Congrats, beautiful watch. As far as selling or passing down. My daughter is a watch lover and I hope that I have instilled in her an appreciation for the art form and ingenuity that goes into each watch. I am sure that some of my great grandkids will be wearing a watch that I purchased. 😉

My 114270 36mm explorer—my first nice watch. Enjoy yours!

Air-King, the previous generation without the crown guard, and the one with the "5" on the dial instead of the "05"

It's quirky and an oddball, but it wears very nice and looks cool, IMO

The other one I was considering was the 39mm OP with the Rhodium dial.

The older Air King may turn around into a cult favorite because it's different and different brings personality.

congratulations! i’m still waiting for a call from my AD for the Rolex Explorer. i’ve decided for it to be my first Rolex coz it fits my personality. it’s timeless, stealth, and iconic. great choice! enjoy the journey.

Thats why I went with it as well. I'm sure you'll get it soon. I was told by another AD that most of the explorers could be expected in the fall.

For you, I hope so as well. I hope to form that kind of relationship in the future when I have kids.

"My questions to you watch lovers, what is the watch you sought to buy to keep and pass on and why?"

I guess it really depends on the length of the hall. If it was a shorter hallway, probably something like an Explorer would be perfect, but for a nice long hall, it would probably be a timeless classic like the Cartier Tank:)

·

Grand seiko snowflake spring drive or one of the high beats. But I don't make anough money right now to even think about those and take care of my family and I'm not going into massive debt for them lol

I'm impressed by this answer, it's the first time I've heard it given.

It will be a better gift to pass on. I hope you are able to get one if not both some day 🍻.

Congratulations on a gorgeous watch! The Explorer is my favorite Rolex. This is a timeless classic to be passed on. Time is the only thing we can't buy more of. Someone in your family will be reminded pf your time. I look at my entire collection as my son's. I would like a new Submariner (long since gave mine away) or a GMT for him. He's going to be a pilot and loves the ocean. You guessed it Navy. Either would be great to gift to him. I doubt I'd even wear it. Just pass it on

Congratulations
