NWA & Goodbye - Grand Seiko SBGX263

This is a bitter-sweet moment in my watch collecting journey.

I am 22 years old, working in IT in Canada. For the last 4 years, I have been here on a study/work permit. Simultaneously, I have always had the dream of owning a home. As the immigration system in Canada can be a bit difficult, I did not foresee myself being able of purchasing a home here anytime soon. As such, I justified some watch purchases here and there.

This resulted in me owning a Tudor Black Bay 58 blue, a Mido Multifort TV & and a Hamilton PSR. I was quite happy with this collection.

However, I recently got an opportunity to finally obtain my Canadian residency, which has opened the opportunity for me to own a home. To ensure I had enough for my down-payment and associated closing costs, I made the difficult decision of selling my collection and purchasing only one watch.

In my head I thought "Would I rather own real estate, or 3 fancy watches?" As much as I love this hobby, my inner adult made the final decision.

I was fortunate to not lose much money on the resale of my watches. I saved a good amount even after selling my watches and purchasing this Grand Seiko. I am now in a more comfortable position to purchase my first home.

This watch is fabulous, in many ways, I love it more than I ever loved all 3 of my watches combined. The finishing is excellent, and it is so incredibly accurate. There truly is beauty in simplicity.

This is the joy of watch collecting, it is truly a journey. Sometimes you have three watches, other times you have none, then you have 20. For now, I made the decision that works best for me.

Congratulations. I'm my opinion, you are making good, well thought it decisions that will pay you dividends in the long term. Watches will be here after you take care of the important decisions first. Good on you.

·

Great decision & congratulations 🎉

·

Excellent decisions watches are a hobby and shouldn't I interfere with important life decisions. There are people people in debt cuz idiotic decisions

·

You made the right decision. A roof over your head is more important than an obsolete ticking machine on your wrist that tells inaccurate time. Congratulations! 👏

·

Do what is right for you! And congrats!! I went through collection splurge to collection purge to collection I’m ok with…both are not bad but as long as your having fun along the way… 🍻

You’re a wise young man. More watches will undoubtedly come your way in time. Until then, enjoy your new homeland and your new home.

·

Well done and congratulations! I am sure you will have a collection again in no time, if you so desire

·

Nice one

·

Congratulations 🎊🍾! I understand how important it is to get that residency and that first home! Great milestone…

And yes you will build that collection over again.. it’s all about patience and time ⌚️

·

Hey Pedro,

Congrats on getting PR! That’s a big accomplishment for all of us who made the decision to leave our homes hundreds, sometimes thousands of KMs away to try to build a new life in a new country.

You made the right choice downsizing your collection in order to be able to buy your first home. I’m sure your future will thank you for that prudent decision.

Beautiful GS, I am sure it will serve you well as you accumulate wealth and you’ll for sure be able to pick up even more watches in the future.

Cheers bud!

·

Welcome to your beautiful country my friend! You’re right, owning a home is much important than some fancy watch. The opportunity of purchase some watch will return for sure. Congrats on your new purchase!

·

Wise man, inspiration for all of us! *at least for me! Lol same with me after got a baby last year really put my perspective and see watch a little differently its fine and all but at the end of the day its just watches. Best of luck and go get that house brother! 🙏🙏

Your real estate investment will allow you to buy more watches down the road.

·

Congratulations and you made an excellent call!

Needs >>> Wants(as sad as it maybe for me to say it, as others have said, watches are a want) 🖖🏾

·
  1. I absolutely love the personal accountability story. You don’t see that much anymore. Kudos to you.

  2. Your comment on sometimes owning zero and sometimes 20 is also spot on.

  3. I’m sure some of us would be interested in supporting you and purchasing a watch to help you in your journey.

We need more personal posts like this!

Home ownership in Calgary (?) is no small achievement. Congratulations! (Nice GS pickup!)

·

Congratulations 🎉. Looking great on your wrist.

·

That’s the right call, Pedro. You’ll get more watches again. But getting a home is way more important, my man. In the mean time, enjoy that GS as much as possible.

·

Way to score an A+ at adulting!!!

·

Mate, you're 22 years old, own a GS and, more importantly, soon enough a home of your own.

Let me tell you, not many people own a GS at 22 years of age let alone a home they can call their own. Whatever you sold, you're far, far ahead of the curve (I'm excluding all the rich kids who inherited all of their wealth and more, obviously...).

All the best!

·

Easy decision. Own real estate and watch your net worth rise over time. Owning watches tends to do the opposite 😂

·

Congratulations

·

Congrats on your GS 9F.

I think you are missing the letter “G” on the GS model.

I got the SBGX 265 (blue dial) and I love it.

At 22 I was still goofing around in college, playing music for the free beer, renting a dump to live in, and watchless. You have a home and a watch nicer than many people will ever acquire. I’d say you are killing it.
