Most overrated complication?

So I was wondering to myself, what is the most overrated complication? What are your thoughts?

Not a complication, but water resistance is pretty overrated. Complication specifically maybe chronograph.

I'm not sure about overrated but my favourite complication is also the most pointless: the moonphase. So whimsical and romantic.

Close joint seconds in pointlessness are the day, month and 24 hour time complication, though my favourite watch features those too.

Agreed re:chronograph. Before I had one I thought "won't that be handy" but in practice I hardly ever use it.

Yeah, it's pointless yet we pay more money for such watches.

Date!!!

Get your memory sorted!!

Hate that complication.

🤣

And just to twist the knife on the chronograph, I never use the bezels on my ones. Does anyone regularly use the tachymeter, telemeter or pulsometer functions?

Chronos do look cool though which is ultimately what really matters for wrist jewelry 😉

Moonphase is useless, but oh so cool. It’s on my list.

I agree.

·

The 24 hour subdial that only tells if your watch is in the am or pm.

·

Most Pointless: 24-hour indicator, but most people don't even care it's on a watch.

Most overrated is probably also my favorite: a moon phase. A well done moon phase watch is such a joy to look at, but really unnecessary for all but a teeny tiny percentage of watch wearers.

The moon phase may not be a very useful complication. But it looks great

·

Compass bezel is the most useless. Also, who the hell uses a tachymeter?

Agreed. Moonphase also a right pain to set.

·

Most overrated. Probably in a minority of 1 but I have no use for the GMT. I happen to know the time difference between the few countries I care about and the calculation isn't difficult.

Closely followed by date function on a dive watch. Especially with a Cyclops.

As for the day and date, it seems that watch people either don’t talk to normal people or only talk to people with perfect memory

I think the date is probably the most useful complication. Day less so.

·

Chronograph… once i own one and wasn’t that handy as it seems

·

Essentially anything that doesn’t just tell the time 😂 some of the extras are great to look at and make watches unbelievable but if you take away the time function nothing else matters.

Kinda out of my hands, dude. ADHD makes one’s short-term memory dogshit.

And with how well date watches sell and how dominant they are, I’d say that you’re pretty firmly in the minority on this one lol

Yeah, I'm definitely in the minority. Just wish companies would release models with both options. - I'm sure they'd sell more.

Lifelong stoner, so can identify with poor short term memory 😉👍🏻

pycvalade

Yeah.. I had a few dates as well that ended up quite complicated I’ll give you that!

🤣 Brilliant reply 🤣👏🏻👏🏻

·

Date, by far. Or moon phase, unless you live in a windowless house

Your not a fisherman huh , fish bite best on a full moon , if your a boatman its good to know just by looking at your wrist when its ok to moor your boat and tie it with enough rope for the tide, oh and you don’t surf either nor need to know when the tide is right to go for a surf :)

I am not a fisherman. But if I was, that would be be a great excuse to buy a moon phase watch! Maybe I should take up fishing...

·

DeJuan it’s all good brother, I feel compelled to let people know that it’s not a useless complication:) my useless complication was a minute repeater ! I am now waiting to also be schooled 🙂

·

It’s got to be the 24 hour indicator. Who doesn’t know whether it’s morning or afternoon when they’re looking at their watch?

·

As a person wpwho finds 24-hour watches to be very useful (and just for progress’s sake), it is a consideration when I buy watches

Interesting. How do you find a 24-hour indicator useful?

Besides the date thing, It’s a full clock. I primarily wear 24-hour watches. And i do so in large part bc i feel it give me a more accurate representation of my day. It also makes it easier for me to visualize my schedule on a clock, which is really nice. Like this:

(FYI, This isn’t my graphic, but it’s probably the best one I’ve found online to demonstrate what i mean)

Also, it’s just nice bc i use 24-hour time and i don’t have to convert

Inttriguing, but as I alluded to in my answer, people that do this are in the minority.

I prefer my watches with at least the date, but if I have to make a choice between one at 6 or 12, or one at any other position, I’ll always choose the former… unless the dial is just too compelling.

·

Time 🙄🤣😂I only wear watches because I like how they look, stair at them all day don't look at the time much though,it's only necessary to calculate how many hours in the day you don't have for yourself 😂
