Building a Beater Collection Pt 9

I decided to take another chance on a Pagani, as I love the look of the Speedmaster but I know I'll never pay that much for a watch.

And I wanted one very stark simple classic design.

So the PD-1701. SS case, 40mm diameter, sapphire, Seiko VK63 movement, all in all a pretty safe bet.

I really like this watch.

Niggles:

1) On this individual watch the dial noon index doesn't exactly line up with the Seconds hand or 60 on the fixed bezel, though the latter two are aligned with each other. Almost like the dial is rotated the slightest amount to the left - but the 6:00 index aligns with the 120 on the bezel.

I'm not sure what's up with that. Doesn't really bother me because I won't be timing anything super critical with this watch. Just pointing it out so someone reading this knows there is a potential issue here.

2) The bracelet is much higher quality in most aspects than the other Paganis I've had/tried. Milled clasp, 3 micro adjustment holes, very nice look to it.

But it is a bit of a hair-puller with hard edges. Not sharp, but you definitely feel the edges.

I tried a StrapsCo Speedmaster bracelet, and while it was higher quality without the sharp edges, it had gaps between the body and the end links (due to where the spring bars go in the lugs on this vs an actual Omega) and it had male end links which made the bracelet less comfortable.

So I returned the StrapsCo and have kept the stock bracelet.

This is my most "adult" looking watch. Looks sleek and sophisticated. And while no one would ever use those words to describe me, I do feel very put-together with this on my wrist.

And compared to that MoonSwatch nonsense, this makes me feel smart, too.

Way too much money for a watch.

For me.

That’s guitar or vacation money.

·

Beautiful series I've just read your other posts in the series, I look forward to some more in the future.

·

Not for me. Travel is more enriching than possessions.

To each his own.

·

The misalignment bugs me out. Otherwise it's a nice watch.

·

I got their version 3 with a strap. Yeah, the reviews said the bracelet is hair puller. There are some really nice leather straps on AliExpress. I think they pair well.

And I get you about the price thing. Paying so much for a watch when the Pagani actually keeps better time.

Go with seiko safer bet. Quality wise as a whole. That pagani watch I would never look at. But as long as your happy then enjoy pal!!

One of my two favorite watches is a Seiko. The Flightmaster.

Most other Seikos I find completely boring. They’re Corollas.
