The scary excitement feeling of buying watches off the internet without seeing them in real life first

Does anyone else get that scary exciting feeling from buy watches off the internet without seeing them in real life first?

I liked it to the same feeling of going on a first date with a lass off tinder.

Are they going to look like they do in the pictures?

Are they going to show up?

Is it going to be love at first sight or instant regret?

Anyway enough about dating 🤣🤣

When we met I realized that size does not show well in pictures and it did not suit me. We ended it after the first date. I wish her (it) the best for futures dates. I was certainly disappointed but need to move on!

I have mostly ordered my watches from online. To be honest I always assumed the Watch is going to look good on wrist and never thought about it not looking good. I have had only one Watch I had to send back because of it being to small for my taste. After 30 plus watches that isn’t bad at all. I think it helps a lot if the watch you like can be purchased from an online store that gives you no headaches taking it back like Amazon.

·

I’ve usually done a shed load of research before i buy, even on a cheaper watch, but yes - I have just been waiting for a £46 watch to arrive and I was counting the hours 👍👍

Normally, I am not very anxious about a watch i bought online / without seeing it in person first. There's ofc always a bit of excitement how it will look IRL and how it will fit, but like Mr.Santana, my basic assumption is that everything will be allright.

However: as we speak, this morning, I am awaiting the arrival of a vintage watch (60's Zenith) I bought in an online auction, from some guy in Portugal. I must admit, I AM very anxious now - in what condition will it arrive, will it function properly, how will it look?? Will keep you posted :)

Unfortunately, for me it does seem not work. I have kept 1 and returned 3. Of course, I watched a crazy amount of videos before pulling the trigger, but on person they were different.

·

I mostly purchased my watches online. Microband sell direct. I may have 3 watches that dont met my expectation from 30s. So 10%. But its good to experiment.

Yeah luckily I’ve not really had any issues with any of my watches I’ve got outline but I do prefer to try them on first never wouldn’t feel comfortable spending over £500 on a watch I’ve never tried on first though

I love the Paganis. Delivery time from AliExpress has improved a LOT since I started coveting those, so a lot less days to twiddle my thumbs, compulsively check the tracking even though it hasn’t had time to have changed much, and try to calm the butterfly tummy. 🤣 The last one took just 5 days.

Since i dont live anywhere near a boutique or AD and the malls around here only sell entry level seiko, casio, and citizen (among other typical mall watches) i always take a risk and buy without seeing the watch in person. I do a lot of google image search and youtube searches prior to the decision though. Watchcrunch has also been helpful in my purchase decisions.

Only time i could see a high end brand in person is on international vacations and those are few and far between

·

all of my watch was ordered online, and since i watch many youtube and wc forum im kinda know what is it going to be like on my wrist fortunately

·

All my watches (except 1) are from the Internet. Never a worry.

Nice Islander. What model is it?

To be honest I don’t do that much research on watches as I’ve found a lot of the reviews on YouTube are not that good I watched one about my rotary seamatic and it said a few things about it what wasn’t true most often then not they are just trying to sell a watch not review it but that’s a hole over topic haha

I’m very lucky I have a lot of places to go near by within a 1 hour or so drive

I buy a lot online and have had only one regret. I do a lot of research prior.

·

I've made a few purchases online. So far no disappointments.

Don't think I've bought a watch in person in the last 20 years.

Has a few I've not liked but been easy to sell them in the past - not so much now as it's a buyers market. Still lumbered with a few low value pieces that I'm looking to offload (bought on a whim or got in trade, Seiko 55 Anniversary & Zelos Swordfish)

Biggest purchase unseen was my Seamaster 300 (£3500) , best buy I've ever made.

Yeah to be honest even just looking at it in the window then trying it on it looks different a little bit ago it seen 50 fathoms in a shop it looked really big in the window but I tried it on and it didn’t look as big sadly I couldn’t afford it tho 😢🤣

With me I expected a number of watches to look more "toolish", but they turned out far more "blingy" in person. I started to look at Sinn and similar brands after that.

That’s a hell of a deal on the omega

Absolutely!! That's why I bought it 😁

Its being patient - I got an early Quartz Aqua Terra for £1300, my Green Willard for £500...

Its a buyers market out there at the mo, just don't rush in - "it's a marathon not a sprint" 👍🏻

·

I have a couple that had good prices but ignored the size only to discover they were huge and heavy.

Nothing like two months of research before buying a 50€ Casio.

·

I'm pretty sure 100% of my watches were bought online sight unseen before arrival.

·

When i was new to the hobby in 2009, yes. Not anymore. Never have problems

Always.
