NWA: first auction / vintage has arrived (and it works!)

As posted earlier, last week I bid on a vintage Zenith (1960’s). Today, in less than a week’s time, it has arrived.

Admittedly, I was somewhat anxious. This is different from buying a new watch online directly from the manufacturer. This is a +/- 60 year old watch from some dealer in Portugal.

No box included, just wrapping foil:

And there it is!

Very happy that, after a couple of winds it started ticking 😀

Looks good on the wrist at 34mm i think:

and it solves my long sleeve / cuff problem: it’s very slim.

So, bit of a gamble, but imo 362 euros well spent!

Congratulations 🎉 On your new vintage time piece. Would you mind telling us how much you ended up winning this for? Do you have any plans to get the watch authenticated by zenith thank you for sharing this with us. Enjoy the new piece in good health.

Thanks!

I mentioned the price for which I got it at the auction at the bottom of the post: 362 euros (excl. shipping).

No plans for authenticating the watch. I have no intention to sell it and happy with it 'as is'. Perhaps if I paid thousands of euros for it, I'd like some confirmation (or perhaps not at all :-)) that it's authentic, but not bothered at this price.

My apologies I must’ve missed that amount at the end of the post and jump the gun. I understand you being content with what you have, and not necessarily needing to get it authenticated that’s just something I would personally be concerned about just in case not for the intention of reselling just to make sure that it’s 100% authentic parts. But sometimes ignorance is bliss and why create more headaches for yourself if you’re happy with the watch cheers.

362 Euros 😳. That is a steal at that price! Looks fantastic on the wrist!

I’ve yet to purchase a vintage timepiece (scared to go down that rabbit hole). Now that you have this timepiece, do you wear it out like your other watches, or do you send to Zenith or a watchmaker for service/maintenance?

PS: easy way to check would be to remove the back panel and check whether the inside indeed matches the seller's picture (which at least to my untrained eye looks fairly legit)

I thought it well worth it! Not a 10 euro flea market miracle, but for a very nice looking (and working!) vintage piece indeed a bargain I think.

I'll just wear it and see how long it lasts (the only watch in my collection I'll send in for servicing is my Glashutte Original).

Should service be required, chances I'll send it off to Zenith are about zero; i'll just hand it over to my local watchmaker and see what he can do with it.

Now, c'mon man - dive into that rabbit hole :-)

I’m paranoid. But at that price, hell, I’ll jump right into it!!!

I would definitely agree with that statement. That would be the first thing I would request to the seller had I’ve been in the market for a vintage toy piece. I also want a note… Movement looks in very good condition. It doesn’t seem like you would need a service anytime soon unless the oils we’re just dry overtime.

·

The vintage piece looks fantastic and appears to be well maintained. I lucked out with my first vintage piece (Vulcain Cricket Alarm). Paid significantly less than what I've seen asked for online. You are living right sir! Congratulations and wear it in good health!

Real good looking vintage 🔥🔥

Beautiful piece and a great deal to boot!

I think it’s legit, now do you like it enough to keep? If so, you need to get it at least inspected to determine if it been serviced. My guess is no it hasn’t, it may run. But those jewels need to be oiled and if you really like it. It’s worth the money!

Will definitely keep it! Re service: you have got a point...seller did state in the advert: "has been serviced by professional watchmaker"...rest of the statements, condition etc. have all turned out to be correct, so am inclined to believe this as well...but have a watchmaker nearby, will check what he charges for an inspection and/or service; if it's reasonable, will have it done.

Old zeniths are very nice. I'd say that is from the 60ies.

·

I’d agree :) This has the calibre 2542.

What a stunning watch 😍
