Best Alternative To a Plastic Watch

You know, I don't hate the SwatchPain, I actually think it's brilliant follow-up to the Moonswatch.

But if all you had was $400, you should definitely consider this instead ☝️

Swatch X Ricoh

How about the Bulova mil ships?

·

🤔a metal one 😂sorry max had too 🙄

·

When the Swatch store in my city starts selling the SwatchPain I'll be picking one up. I already have serious watches for when I need a durable and reliable watch, so the SwatchPain will sit beside my MoonSwatch and come out when I feel like being a bit less serious.

Nah man!!! I’d take the Swatchpain any day of the week!!!

I really like Glycine - some really quirky, slightly ugly duckling-ish designs and some really faithful reissues of the Airman. Plus insane value - Swiss automatic moonphase for $220 new - yes please! Admittedly that was in 2020. Here are mine:

As I already own the Combat Sub, looks like I can get the Swatch Scuba.

·

When they introduced the Speedmaster with the bio ceramic case, I bought a Timex Secret Agent Snoopy instead. I felt it was more fun and better value.

This time, I bought the Momentum Sea Quartz 30. I think it’s also better value.

YMMV

Swatch X Ricoh

The next in their lineup? Is it a Japanese brand? I feel that these types of watches are more on the disposable side of horology. Yes it's another dabbling in the material use in watch making and horology history story. It's something a collector may buy and tuck away. I myself would rather have that Glycine. That's me.

Thanks Max. Appreciate your insight on the subject.

glycine definitely is the winner here 😍😍. i mean how do they made profit with pricetagg like that. hey @Max what do you think about this article https://perezcope.com/2023/09/09/debunking-the-fictitious-history-of-the-blancpain-fifty-fathoms/

·

If you don’t like Swatch, maybe try this Invicta?

·

Show it a few times on here but this is my bronze Combat Sub that I managed to get delivered to the UK for around £420. Currently on a thick leather and the only watch I own that I am happy to beat up on. Feels like it can take anything (I would take a blue SwatchPain though..)

Great read! Seems well researched

is it true that rolex submarine did the first modern dive watch instead of blancpain?

I just find it ironic that we should look at an Invicta sub-brand rather than a Swatch Group sub-brand. If you want to go all in on a classic looking diver for $400 then buy anything else or save up (unless of course this was a paid hit piece…). Anyway, one is clearly a cynical hype-job and the other is just a normal watch, we might as well compare chalk and cheese on dairy content.

Don’t go there… we’ve already got the Waltham marketing division on here writing paid hit pieces demanding we all sue Rolex for horological crimes. People have books to sell, damn it!

·

I like them , in fact all the colours except the green work for me. However it’s question about the movement is it a Primark throwaway or can they be replaced when it goes Pete Tong.

·

Well, I just can't but I am happy you did. I own a swatch Sistem51 (pronounced Zistem) and that is pretty much the end of my thoughts on it. The other half stole it shortly after purchase and I haven't seen it in a while. I don't even care, which pretty much sums up my thoughts on it. Was surprised you didn't mention that if you want to wind the Sistem51 you have to do it backwards (counterclockwise wind)!

im sorry i just need to know the fact 😂😂

It’s not really $299 though is it… it’s not really $1450 either. I’ll post a screengrab of your link for posterity in case no one else can be bothered.

If you want to quote sale prices, then f**k it, let’s just get all our economic figures from eBay. I inherited an Omega once, I guess that means they are free on the open market, and you shouldn’t pay more than £20.

This is incredibly boring - if you still want to pick an argument, go ahead, but I do not have the energy. I made a pithy comment as I find the comparison tenuous, and amusing, as did a handful of others. You didn’t, and that’s fine, you obviously weren’t the target audience. Enjoy your Invicta, like I will enjoy all my Swatches. I’ll crawl back under my bridge now.

And back we go to the start… you bored yet?

MSRP is all nonsense marketing for even the high end brands. All that matters is how much comes out of your credit card.

Yes, and yes. I picked up a very ugly new Luminox for £200 with an RRP of £589, and online it’s seldom less than £450. Watch prices are a crapshoot most of the time.

Thanks to the power of the interwebs you have the power to pay what you feel is right.
