What emotional story does your favourite watch tell?

I have a collection of a few watches but of all those that I really like, this one is my favourite. To me the timeless design, silvery/ white dial, symmetry and versatility is just amazing. It fits every occasion and is really comfortable and clean.

But what I like the most about it, is the reason I own it and what I associate with it.

I bought this watch around two years ago which was a quite challenging time for me. I was then working in a university-hospital to become a neurosurgeon. I worked long and hard shifts, around 80-90 hours a week and had been caring and working hard for patients on the ICU for 2 years up to that point.

During that period my wife and I had our beautiful daughter. And this changed everything. I realised the struggle of working in that field took away far too much time, that I would much rather spend with my family. I almost never saw my daughter awake and was ever more exhausted after work and also taking care of her. Combining that with progressively worse working conditions, stress, mediocre management I realised it was time for a change.

I quit my job, looked for a different hospital and department with way better working conditions and this gave me the chance to spend soooo much more time home. Soon I will have the chance to work outside of a hospital as a general practitioner, what lets me combine work and family in the best possible way.

This watch to me is a sign of the decisions I made to drop the high-performing career in order to commit to my family and free time.

It also reminds me of where I came from (white dial as a symbol for my lab coat 🥼) and what I had achieved up to that point.

I couldn’t be happier with the decision I made and looking back I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything and would always decide in the same way if put back in front of this decision.

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to share the emotional meaning this watch has for me. 😊

Do you have an emotional favourite in your collection?

I would love to hear some stories of the people behind these beautiful watches on here. 😍

Cheers mate, IMHO Heath & Family (however big or small) >>> Career. I did a similar thing when I stopped working stupid hours in one pharma company.

I don’t have a specific watch, but I absolutely love your story and I’m a sucker for sentimental watches. To you and your family’s good health 🍻

Thx for the story! I went to high school with a lot of buddies who came from inner city families became medical doctors to move forward in society, perhaps some have fared more successfully than others in their private lives but they certainly all made sacrifices, no doubt!

After graduation from an architecture program, I was unable to secure a position in a top office ended up working for a major development corp. dealing with mostly lawyers and bean counters, a lot of 2 tone Rolex Datejusts and also gold Day/Dates, I was the grunt who wore black or charcoal grey suits with a few Breitling watches, oddly was mocked for my somber suits and big Chronograph watches. One afternoon after I was finally assigned a major project that I essentially brought to the office, decided to resign to start my own small office. I like to refer to the Breitling watches in my rotation as my Sancho Panzas, my loyal companions when I was young enough to tilt at my personal windmills in life.

Great story. Too many people give their lives over to their career, only to regret it later in life once it’s too late. Work can be fulfilling, but we all need a balance in our lives 👍

My watch story is too much to write, so I’ll just share the link to a post that I made.

Cheers.

Amazing story and so excited for you!

My wife and I are having our first child this August and I am planning to pick up a Baltic MR01 Silver to commemorate becoming a father. Funnily enough, I am also searching for a career change. Your story is inspiring to me.

This is my favorite. For many reasons. Not the least of which is it aids in anxiety control for me. That silver dial is just so placid and calming!

I bought this watch after deciding to sell my remaining bitcoin for profit that I had been holding since 2014 or so. Shortly after, Bitcoin reached an all time high and I’ve been quite emotional ever since.
