I had to find a special watch last summer.
I’ve been here a few weeks now, and this is my first post. I figured it should be with this watch.
Last summer my sisters and I had to put my mother on hospice. A terrible time with a definitive timeline. I didn’t own a suit or a watch to go with one. All I’ve ever owned are sports watches. The watch needed to be special and indicative of her. She always wore a watch. Always! In fact, we buried her with her watch on, it was so much a part of her.
My watch needed to be blue, as her birthstone is blue topaz, which she loved. I thought of getting something expensive and fancy, but that wasn’t really her. She was classy, but fun and very playful.
What I landed on was this Longines Conquest. It was perfect. Not a true dress watch, but it could fill that part and represented her spirit to me. Shimmering, colorful, and interesting. Just like her.
I wore it with my new suit to her funeral. I wear it when I want to think of her. Interestingly, it’s the only watch I’ve ever had someone compliment. I love it and it will never leave my possession.

Such a touching story. My mother just celebrated her 93rd birthday, but I’ve watched my father and three siblings die. That’s one of the reasons I enjoy collecting nice watches. I know I won’t be here forever and I might as well spend the time with things I love. Plus they will be passed down to the next generation to enjoy
