Update: Gave my coworker his watche back 😊

As a lot of you guys asked for an update:

Today was the day I gave the watches back to my coworker. He was absolutely flattered and excited. I showed him pictures of the movements disassembled and he was fascinated.🤩

He immediately took of his Apple Watch an put the auto one on (which is a huge win for mechanical watches imo) 💪🏼😍

He promised me to get me something nice in return, maybe a couple of beers or wine as I didn’t want any money from him.🍺🍷

All in all a really great experience and I hope I have infected a new person with the watch-virus 🤩👌🏼

I have to ask, are we sure he understands the fundamentals of how to keep a mechanical watch running? It's a good sign that he actually put one on his wrist, but I've heard too many tales of dopes that pick the watch up after sitting for a week and think it is broken because no longer running, which is rational if one is used to quartz. Being used to an Apple Watch and their crummy power reserve may actually be a benefit here.

Does it matter? Everyone has to start somewhere. I mean in this case he does know because he had owned them for some time until they stopped and the watchmakers didn’t want to repair it so he changed.

I also explained the differences between the handwinding and automatic one and how to operate the quick set date etc. I think he got it and can now practice with these watches 😊

As long as he knows that one can hand wind and that automatics get wound by wearing, neither watch should be misdiagnosed as broken when it is merely unwound. That's the concern and that scenario is always a shame.

If collecting watches was a religion, you would be a saint.

He about to give you a new Bergon screwdriver set. Then hand you another watch the following week.

Amazing job! Let’s keep win them over, don’t get me wrong digital watches have there purpose and time. I just prefer the nostalgia and the story every watch tells. You just need some elbow grease and the want to know. The rest will follow. 🤟🏽
