CWoW budget: Daniel Wellington

OH BOY DO I GOT A POLL FOR YOU! Happy Wednesday, all, Today is a big day for the wall. Today we get to rank the Daniel Wellington watch. This one may get dicey as I know many loathe them, while some others (myself included) had one of these and got into (or back into) watches, Making them a fondly remembered springboard into this silly, crazy, awesome world or "real" watches These cheaply made Bauhaus knockoffs ruled the internet and social media back in 2016, for better or worse. Let's hear it WatchCrunch!

obvious choice lol

Hahahaha.. If this watch gets you into watch collection and made you look at watches seriously, I say it’s cool. Not the watch though.

They are only good in social media and marketing, that i can’t deny. 🙏

·

If you are normal person that's not into watches but wants a watch this is the watch for you.  Uncool.

·

I think the general public would think this watch is cool. It looks good and is and marketed well. if I knew nothing about watches I would buy this over a Nomos and think what kind of a weirdo pays £x000s for a watch that you can get for £100.
Same way I wonder Why people pay hundreds or thousands for a pen when my biro works perfectly and is comfortable to use. It’s just because I’m not into that hobby or don’t understand it.

Great marketing exercise with very limited substance. Minimalism is very hard to pull off without looking cheap or boring. In the worst case, it looks like something that can be ordered for $10 overseas.

·

I said just "uncool". Because of their cheap production, highly inflated value and mass marketing, this is understandably considered the bain of the watch community.

But, for non-enthusiasts, I think they're a great style and I can understand why people like them.

Also, in the 10 (?) years that they've been out, no watch company in their price range has come close to replicating the style using better materials, movements, etc. The Orient Bambino comes close, but doesn't hit the mark, particularly in thickness.

So, I have to give a LITTLE credit where it is due.

·

For me, it is just a little uncool for their pricing compared to a cheap quatz model they are selling

But it does not really much different from other fashion watch brands so.. 🙈🙈

I ran across these in person before hearing any hype. It was in a fountain pen shop in Boston that stocked them. I was not a total watch nerd, or even a partial one at the point. However, I thought they were too big, too boring, too expensive, and the logo was lame. I was very underwhelmed.

Beyond marketing, they do nothing that many others don't do much better for much less.

Supposedly the kids are into these, and that alone proves how uncool they are. I've heard of wearers that can't even tell or set the time. These are a total scam and ripoff, and they aren't even ripping of people we love to hate (ahem RM, Hublot) so I find nothing even remotely cool about these. Would not miss if they disappeared from the planet.

·

I only say cool because they gateway that isn’t like… obscenely garish in size and design, and possibly be a lesson once the wearer figured out they overpaid 😆

can I change my vote?

While I love the argument any watch that brings people into the hobby is good; what is less than good is finding out you paid $200 for a watch that you could have bought for for as low as $2 on AliExpress or wish. Heck, for very little money, you can have your name and logo added to the dial. And if one does not think that is EXACTLY how MVMT and Daniel Wellington started, I have a $2 watch I’d like to sell you for $200.

Five years later, it's still one of the funniest watch memes ever made.
