SOTC 2023!

Here it is! My reduced collection! Each of the watches in here are the ones I had to keep, for one reason or another. I went through my collection and made some easy decisions, followed by less easy decisions, followed by some hard decisions, with the goal of having a more focused, less eclectic collection that I felt represented me as a collector. In no particular order,

Hamilton-1971 Thinline, Khaki Mechanical Field, and Khaki Pioneer Pilot. My hand winding trio.

Seiko-SKX013, G757, and SNJ025. Three iconic watches.

Citizen-Promaster Nighthawk, Promaster Diver, Promaster GMT World Time, my Air, Sea, and Land trio, along with Brown Lump, my 1977 Citizen CQ Solar Cell.

Islander-Islander/Urban Gentry Rangemaster, Islander/Hemel Hawkeye, and Spinnaker/Islander Hi Beat Croft. My collaborations.

Casio-Cosmo Phase 50W, G Shock GWM5610, and A100 Pac Man. Fun beaters!

Timex- Q Digital. The only Timex I ever really wear, and the only Timex to make the cut.

Bulova-Computron and Hack. Nostalgia incarnate in the Computron and the Hack is a great gift from my wife, along with being a great field watch.

Tissot-PR100. Perhaps my only true dress watch, and part of a paired set with my wife's PR100.

Armitron-1985 Calculator watch and Sport Alarm Chrono. The true geek's calculator watch and my F91W alternative/beater watch.

Tandorio-37mm NH34 GMT, 36mm CUSN8 Bronze, and 36mm Titanium. The GMT is really a placeholder until Seiko does the right thing and releases their own 37mm 4R34 GMT, and the bronze and titanium are inexpensive purchases to see if I like these metals, and if I eventually do like one or both, they become placeholders while I decide what they will get replaced with.

There you have it, my collection after the great reduction and a couple of new additions/replacements. 😃

Love the hand wind trio!!!

Thanks! This is also my different crystals trio. One acrylic, one sapphire, and one mineral. That is my only complaint about the Khaki Pioneer Pilot; it has mineral glass instead of sapphire.

I didn’t know that. Hammy should do better. Stick a kicka$$ watch!!

Yeah, the price is a bit too high with mineral glass, which is why I went grey market with this one.

Love the Seiko G757! Be careful with this one when the battery dies… I left mine for about a month… suffice to say it’s with us no more… 😭 Change it immediately!

·

Wow! How many total did you pare from the collection???

I have heard about this before and check it each morning almost obsessively. 😁

I want to say 95 or even a bit more, but I am not really sure. 🤣 I know it was well over 75. I am still getting rid of some odds and ends.

Now that you reduced the collection does it bring more joy in watch collecting?

I want to say yes?, but I am not entirely sure yet. I do know it will bring more deliberation and consideration to my collecting. I already see myself thinking more about what to add that will improve my collection instead of simply expanding it, if that makes sense?

·

Sooo, do you have a favorite or one of a few that hits wrist time?

·

Nice collection! Looks similar to my taste.

Actually, these are the ones in my former collection that saw wrist time on a regular basis, although I do tend to gravitate to my Hamilton Khaki watches, my Citizen Promaster watches, my Seiko Diver watches, and my Islander collaboration watches.

·

Nice collection. You are giving me some inspiration relative to paring down my collection. I haven't gotten there yet...

Thanks! Have you posted a SOTC? Love to see your collection.

Hahha Trust me it's way bigger then mine I have 36 and counting. To reach your number I have to do impulsive shopping.

Hmm, two pocket watches and three Soviet watches in the post to me. 🤔🙄

·

So this is a "reduced" collection 😅

Yes, down substantially. 😆

nice collection

·

Good job to size down. What happened to your vintage pieces? Is your vintage period over?

I kept some of them, but I did get rid of many of them. No, it is not over, but I am going to be more deliberate about adding to my collection now.

·

Reduced you say 🙄

·

Did you have colorful watches, didn't like them and got rid of them or never interested in anything but black and white? About half of my watches are blue, green or red and I like the variety when I switch them.

Honestly, I do tend to gravitate to black dials. I did have some more colorful dials, but none of them survived the purge. 🤣 I also don't think it was actually about dial color, it was more about size. I am left with only three watches larger than 40mm in my collection. I really gravitate to smaller cases. 😉

I think black is by far the most popular color. The last two watches I bought were black. I like them more as time goes on I like smaller watches too.

Here is my newest small addition.

The new 36mm Promaster Diver. It pairs great with my SKX013.

Nice collection, I'm down sizing my own to about 12 pieces which I'm in the process now.

·

I always admire your collection you have a classic old school time pieces.
