Frederique Constant Highlife 41 vs 39

Hi watch connaisseurs,

I’ve narrowed down my search for my first watch to the Frederique constant highlife. However, they now have the latest versions coming out in a ‘decent’ 39mm diameter. My initial search ended up with the 41mm.

Since my wrist size is 6.75 inch / 17cm, I find it hard to decide the size. The seller of the 39 says 38, the other seller of the 41 says 41 is the size for me. They both think selling is their priority.

I have added photos:

  • matte green 41

  • Black 39 mm

  • Blue 39 mm

What would you choose?

For 6.75" wrist the 39mm fits better imho.

·

39 is the way to go.

Both 39 and 41 are fine for your wrist; 2mm is not that big a difference anyhow :) For this style of watch though I’d opt for the slightly smaller, i.e. the 39mm option.

Black 39 is class my friend 👌

·

The 39, especially if it's an intergrated bracelet style watch.

·

Always thought the watch was great but didn’t care for the dial pattern so my vote would be the black. Hopefully they continue to evolve the dial options.

Fantastic choice, I love the Highlife!! I have a 6.75" wrist as well, and lately I have been looking more at the lug to lug distance and trying to stay at or below 50mm for comfort. I saw on some website I've never heard of the 39mm has a L2L of 52mm, not sure if thats right. Love the green dial in this!

Blue 39

Both look fine, the pics kind of make the blue look larger than the green at least to me. Maybe it's the photo or maybe the bracelet. Either way it won't be a huge difference but its always better to go slightly smaller if unsure, especially on an integrated case

I am also considering the FC Highlife and I also have a 17cm so I have the same doubts as you, but I am leaning toward the 39mm, being an integrated bracelet watch and with such a thin bezel I think it tends to wear larger and I am getting more used to watches under 40 mm lately.

Also, I think the smaller lug-to-lug will allow more of the bracelet to show on top of the wrist which I believe helps to display the integrated design of the case and bracelet better.

Thanks all for responding, nice community of watch lovers! i’ll keep you in the loop

On bracelet I would go with 39mm, but on leather or rubber straps the 41mm is very wrist friendly - the bracelet at 41 not so much IMO.

Great choice by the way. Great brand and model!!

Yes I understand, wearing them both the 39 is more comfortable, but the 41 gives a nicer transition from case to bracelet. The 39 ratio between case and bracelet feels off, compared to the 41. You have tried them both as well?

No, I haven't tried them. I have bought nearly all of my watches online with good results, but for the price of this one and being an unusual case shape for me I think I will have to see both in person before committing. I am not fully sold on the dials and in any case it will have to wait until next year, so I will wait and see if they come up with other designs or colors, I think they are expanding the collection.

Look at the standard font size of the text used here. For my example, I've picked 'O.' Two millimeters, 39 vs. 41, is less than the width of this O. And that's spread evenly over your entire wrist. I'm still surprised how this impacts watch buying so much.

My pick? I love the 41mm in matte green. 1. To me, black and blue are too common. Overdone? 2. It doesn't look the least bit too large on your wrist either.

I'm about to buy a Highlife too.

I'm going for the Blue / Grey 41.

Have you bought yours yet? It's a good choice for your first serious watch.

My wrist is ~ 20cm / 7.75in. I prefer my watches smaller but the 41mm was better for me.

The quality is remarkably good for the money. It's a really good bracelet, the finishing is fantastic and the design isn't as derivative as most integrated bracelet sports watches.

If you haven't already bought I'd definitely recommend the 39mm on your size wrist.

I found it wore quite small - the 41mm FC wears smaller than the 40mm PRX - but the polished elements give it a heap of wrist presence.

Have you considered 'The Avener' LE? That dial is pretty spectacular. I would've grabbed that one had it been 41mm.

Interested in what you decided to buy and your hot take if you've bought one- there aren't a lot of them on the platform.

Update: eventually went for the black dial, because of:

  1. Versatility with dial color and the option of leather strap

  2. Good deal

  3. 39 fits better and feels better.
