I got a Tissot to serve as my "work" watch. It was my first automatic watch and it had a see through case back. Seeing that engineering and craftsmanship (however humble) was the gateway to reading and learning as much as I could about watches.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A Fossil mall watch
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
My Aqua Terra 36mm is my engagement watch--it's a reminder of my fiancé and the things I love about her (her strength and feminism, and appreciation of timeless and durable things--as a 36mm black steel sports watch never goes out of style, and the quartz movement is ecofriendly!). It's also a reminder of how proposals don't have to be one-sided. We BOTH proposed to each other a few months apart.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Embrace trial and error--time is a living and moving thing, and so is our relationship with our watches. You have to live with a watch, not just see it on Instagram or in a Hodinkee review. Like any relationship, you have to be ok with it not working out in order to appreciate when it works out perfectly.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Glashutte Original, Omega, Tag Heuer, and Sartory Billard (because I'll never be able to afford a Naoya Hida)
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
Naoya Hida & Co. Type 2A or a Glashutte Original PanoMaticLunar
