What Would be Your One Watch?

It occurred to me this afternoon that if I really had to choose one model of watch to wear for the rest of my life, the Timex Expedition/Atlantis would be my pick. I have other watches I like more, and I have other watches that are more capable on paper, but this is the one I would choose.

My reasons are pretty straightforward, it essentially boils down to affordability, size, and capability.

  1. The watch is under $100 CAD directly from Timex.

  2. It has a 40mm diameter, and 10mm thickness.

  3. It has all of the watch functions I could need, like a second time zone, light, alarm, and timer.

  4. 100m WR is more than enough for anything I do.

Before I got into watch collecting, one of these badboys was my only watch for over a decade, so I could fairly easily go back to wearing one as my only watch if I had to.

So, my question to anyone interested is; What would your realistic one watch be, and why?

If I was going to go to 1 Watch it’d be a Tudor day/date or ranger.

Any particular reason for the choice? The Ranger is a very cool GADA watch.

I think either one is versatile. I like the smooth bezel 36 day/date. Or the 38 ranger. Suits my wrist size. Good on a bracelet, strap, nato. The eta movements are reliable and serviceable. Tudor represents to me, the perfect balance of cost attributable to quality/heritage/prestige.

Prior to today, I had been leaning more toward either my CW C63 or C65 Dune, but the practicality of a digital quartz watch won me over the more I thought about it.

I guess I’m looking at it as if I was done collecting and just finishing out my life with one watch, it’d have to be a Tudor.

If we fall into a MadMax dystopian future, I guess at that point I want a triple sensor Casio.

Aesthetically, I would go with the GMT

Cool factor, I would go Speedy

Practically / real world day to day, I would go Seiko 6309-7040 or Sinn U50Pro

okay this harder than I thought, lol

I have gone through a similar thought process. Initially I was thinking my C63, it's the perfect GADA automatic for me, but then I thought about how handy a timing bezel would be, so I thought GSAR. Then I thought the GSAR might be a bit too chunky for everyday, so maybe the Navigator would work, and it's quartz too! Then I realized a brown quartz field/pilot's watch wouldn't be that handy int he office...

So I came back around to the watch that started it all for me. I managed to survive for ~15 years with just a Timex Atlantis, I should be fine with one now.

A solid choice! It's not my cup of tea, but I can see the appeal of it.

Omega Aqua Terra. 150m water resistance, three hander with a date. Beautiful watch to look at and a strap monster.

My phone offers everything else and then some.

If I had the cash for an AT, I'd potentially have chosen that as well.

Oh, I don’t own one, but if I could only have one, that would be it.

I’m feeling too lazy to go grab mine out of the box, so here’s a picture from the website. GAB2100-1A. Bulletproof, solar, stylish, and comfy!

I have one as well, I'm not a fan myself.

I get it. There’s plenty I shouldn’t like about it (legibility, size), but for some reason I just don’t care.

I'd be tempted to go that way as well... though I might lean more toward the Globemaster, as I find it a bit nicer looking overall.

I'll admit, part of choosing an Omega as my "one watch" over a Timex would definitely be the status/brand. Sure the Timex would offer more, but the Omega is an Omega.

  1. A more budget-friendly and somewhat underrated pick would be some sort of Casio Edifice. A decent, well-made quartz watch that comes in a solid stainless steel case can take you far. The watch I have received the most compliments on is still my Casio Edifice chrono. A real pleasure to wear, if your wrist can handle some of their sizes.

That's a great suggestion, a quartz analog watch is a great way to get a reliable, accurate, and good looking watch on your wrist at an affordable price.

I think a Vaer S3 or S5 would also make a solid choice for anyone looking for something "nice" but not crazy expensive.

Hundred per cent. I really love a mechanical watch, but some mornings I just wake up and think, "I don't want to wind and set a watch today." Then I don't, and put my Casio on.

If it's a casual day I put on my Marathon Navigator, if it's a dressier day I'll put on my Sternglas Naos.

That is a stunner!

If I had a VC to choose, I'd likely choose my VC as well!

·

This one was one of the first watches to really get me hooked. Think I could live with seeing this on my wrist every day!

You can't go wrong with a solid mechanical watch.

·

If I had to choose just one I’d likely choose the Fortis Flieger F-39. It has the look I like, the functions I need, and capacity beyond my present needs. It was on my short list before Hamilton stole my heart.

·

Earlier until this month. I would have vouched for my f91W or 5600. I sadly managed to sink my f91W.

There are the beautiful mechanical ones. Some might withstand the conditions.

But I might just pick an Ironman now and forget about it. Solar would have been bonus though.

·

Not my favorite but if I have to have only one it would be my GShock 5610. No other watch would be guaranteed to last, would be more accurate or have more functions. But please don't make me choose just one, I want to keep all my lovely watches 😀

If I could only have one watch it would be my Tudor GMT

A watch that can survive an emp 🙂 and or be solar powered:)

Bro I reviewed the stranger things edition and it was so comfortable. Super underrated and with 100m of WR you could do anything with this you wanted to do. It’s thinness was also next level

They have been a bit of a sleeper in the Timex line for decades now. I lucked into getting one when I was young, and have been hooked on the model since.
