Totally agree. Nivada make much more beautifully designed and finely crafted timepieces than Baltic. Here are two that blow all of Baltic's boring designs out of the water...

I wouldn’t say that Baltic makes a bad watch. I simply have no experience with them. I actually like the looks of a few. However, I’ve never been drawn enough to purchase one.

Nivada’s designs speak to me. Definitely a few that you posted. That’s why I own a couple. I enjoy them very much and think they’re pretty solidly made. So, yeah, a little biased.

I truly have nothing against Baltic. I’m not even really salty. Just wanted to have a little fun and make this post since they knocked NG out of the tourney. Trolling with love, as Mr @SimonB would say. 😆

I agree with you guys on #nivadagrenchen making more interesting and essentially nicer designs than #baltic but I think #baltic deserved to win the tournament. I don’t know about you guys but for me, I don’t consider #nivadagrenchen to be a microbrand. 🤔

I agree, but I figured out pretty early on that this is not a debate about who makes the more interesting watches it's literally a popularity contest, and once I got that through my head I just shrugged and said "okay, Baltic is super popular, good for them, I know NG makes more interesting stuff and that's okay too"

Agree 💯, I have the Antartic, just like the one you shared, on pre-order for April delivery (will be numbered) I like them so much. Their back catalog is extremely strong and price points competitive.

I think, someone correct me if I am wrong, it's a resurrected brand like Ollech & Wajs and is indeed a micro utilizing the now retro NG back catalog to re-enter the market.

The Nivada should have heard the Baltic coming, and the Baltic should have missed because they were staggering around!

I believe it's a combination of a few variables including Baltic pushing their brand out there by sending many watch releases out for review for the sake of marketing. Therefore, more recent brand recognition than NG.

On top of that Baltic watches are much cheaper and more accessible than NG. Cheaper watches are more associated with the micro brand nomenclature. And it's also hard to just call NG a micro brand since they originated nearly 100 years! Tough to call a 100 year brand a micro brand.

I believe Baltic are also part of the force driving watch sizes down to more classic sizes while giving their designs a quasi nostalgic/original appeal.

Great movie analogy nonetheless.

Love the reissues as well as the vintage references.

And I think NG was actually one of the first to be releasing vintage reissues exactly in the same dimensions as the originals with the 38mm case size for the chronographs.

They also broadened the market with making available more economical versions using mecaquartz movements for less than $500.

Always Nivada Grenchen! I look at Baltic but always purchase Nivada. Four of them since they launched the DepthMaster. My kind of fun they offer.

Thanks Everyone... Great Support Group... But I'm here with the evidence: Behold, a 1949-1952 Nivada I just rescued from an estate sale in England (arrived this past week). It will be sent for service and Crystal replaced to celebrate August 2024, 30 Years of Duty for the US Air Force... I wanted to wait till then to post, but thought it would help the support group... Will post history of model, Nivada, and of course my service when August rolls around.
