I don't think this watch exists but here's what I'd want in a perfect watch
Tricompax chronograph with recessed subdials: one for the running seconds, one for a 60 minute totalizer, and one for an independently adjustable GMT hour.
Royal blue dial and dauphine hands
Date display
100m Water resistance
Doesn't have to be automatic. A new mechaquartz movement that can do this would be amazing.
I guess it would be in line with engaging with art. It's for the enjoyment even though there is minimal function. I say guess because my watch is a tool I use daily at my job. I'm running timers and stopwatches often, and I work in a potentially destructive environment so bringing my phone out is generally not a great idea.
I'm going to speak for myself. I'm going with the quartz. Not much maintenance, I don't have to worry about the movement. Quartz is more accurate and always running is so much better than 80 hours power reserve. A sweeping seconds hand isn't worth $275 to me. Overall, I'm not somone who's tremendously in love with automatic watches.
I love chronographs so I'd like to make my first luxury watch an Omega Speedmaster. Its expensive but not AP or Patek expensive. I could reasonably save for it.
My fossil decker chronograph. It's not an especially nice watch, it's probably a little too big for my wrist. But I got it in my junior year of high school and it's accompanied me through major accomplishments: high school graduation, all of college, college graduation, first job out of college.
