MVMT

Youtube reviewers seem to hate MVMT but the reviews on Amazon, and other websites, seem to be very positive overall.

Why?

What're your thoughts?

Hey kl3xb1. From what I’ve heard MVMT uses very inexpensive components in their watches and some of their designs are simply rebranded  Chinese watches which are usually sold via dropshipping With a big mark up. I’ve also heard some “influencers” were  paid/ encouraged to create  favorable posts and reviews. I haven’t seen these watches personally but for the same price you could find some seikos or orients which may fit the Bill. All that said, buy what you love. It’s  your collection.

Honestly MVMT was my gateway into the watch world. I just liked how simple some of the watches looked. Fast forward a couple years later I understand that the quality is meh at best but at the time I was plenty happy

My thought is that the people that buy MVMT watches don't know the difference and most don't care to.

Word. Fashion watch and when you’re in high school or college even $150 is a lot for a watch and literally the only thing you care about is looking good - which some from MVMT do nicely.

MVMT watches appeal to people who just want a watch to wear.

Unlike most of us who want many watches to wear, look at pictures of watches to wear, talk online about watches to wear, like to show off the watches that we're wearing, like to see what others are wearing, like to read about watches to wear, etc............................................

MVMT appears to have some Aliexpress Brands private labeled for them.  At least many startups specify their own components and and hire and assembly operation to build the watches. In MVMT's case they appear to have done none of that.  Check out this Teddy Baldassare YouTube video where the owner of MVMT denies that they use Aliexpress watches but doesn't show what they do use.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsRkV3Vs2Ac

Don't get one. MVMT is cheaply built and overpriced.

Come on, don't say that. They're disrupting the industry.

Personally, I hate it when a good MVMT gets disrupted...

That's another question I have! Everyone says, "You can find good deals on watches on aliexpress." or "you can find that on aliexpress.", but when I look like for watches on there, I can only find really cheap smartwatches. I can't find any other watches. Where is everyone finding these watches on aliexpress?!!!

All the "influencers" I've seen spoke negatively towards MVMT. I just don't want to make a bad financial decision. There are a handful of MVMT designs that look good to me that I haven't seen done exactly the same before, besides in watches that I can't afford.

I can't find any Orients or Seikos for $50.

I didn’t realize the MVMT watches you’re looking at were that cheap. Seiko and orient will be closer to $100 even for their cheaper watches. Still, I can’t recommend MVMT at all. If you look at the Amazon warehouse you may be about to find a decent watch for under $100. It’ll be a customer return but usually they are like  new and  you can still return them if you’re unhappy. Or maybe look at Casio, depending on what you’re looking for in a watch.

I can't speak for all brands but I love my Sugess(Sea-Gull) and have no problem finding their watches with the search window on Aliexpress.  Same goes for San Martin.  Give it one more try.

as an example, here is a customer return for $92. Scroll down the page a little to see it

That's the problem with "influencers". Their opinions (either way) are for sale as the entire influencer system is corrupted by a few dollars.

Hopefully that market will sort itself out some day. Until then, I'll continue to ignore "influencers".

MVMT = 💩

·

I bought this MVMT a few weeks ago for $15 shipped. I just thought it looked nice but knew nothing about them. I found this forum while searching for info on MVMT. After reading some here I was getting a little worried but for $15 who cares.

When it got here it needed a battery so I took it to a local watch repair guy. I told him I paid $15 and asked if I wasted my money. He said no...it's a decent watch even if it was designed by Millenials (!!). Once he got it open he brought it over to me and showed me the Miyota movement. Again he stressed it was a decent watch. He put the battery in and it works fine.

But I don't like the watch. Its too big on my wrist. And the black hands on the black face can be real hard to see and impossible to read in the dark. Now I have to decide if I want to keep it or give it away.
