Which dial colours are timeless and which ones are fads?

For us newbies trying to build a collection that’ll stand the test of time, it’s hard to know what’s a staple that’ll last and what‘a a trend that‘ll fade. Neutral colours like cream, black, white, and grey seem like safe choices. I love a turqoise or a forest green dial, but have no idea if I’ll hate them in a few years.

My question to enthusiasts who’ve been collecting for decades, or to those who are deeply into vintage, are there any surprising dial colours that stay popular? What dial colours are here to stay? And which colours are you confident will become irrelevant?

I collect mainly vintage & the dials colours I have are Black, Grey, White & Gold. You do see a lot of funky colours in the 70s like brown, green , purple etc but some of these watches haven't aged well!! For a more timeless look that will be more versatile with straps & clothes Black, white & maybe blue or silver are good options!

Some greens never go out of style. (Actually, yes they do.  But, then they come back. I hope.)

Edit:  I should get it back very soon.  It would end the challenge to be able to wear that clunker again.

black, white , blue or always going to be popular.

Even red has a solid place

Green is a bit of a fad but its not as big a fad as tiffney blue dials lol

Enamel timeless and a classic.

·

Black, white, gray, blue and cream for me.

So… it sounds like I should get the SBPGA415 over the SBGA413 😉

I love blue dials in pictures and it's my favorite color in terms of outfits. I have a handful of blue dial watches. However, my brain and hands always picks up the black dial versions 🤔🤣😂 Just a sample and one out of many watch drawers 😭🤙🏽

timeless, railroad approved dial.
least favorite dials are  blacked out dials or anything described as"tactical"

The biggest fad is definitely tiffany blue.

I'd say you have your own style that is informed by your formative years. So, just make sure that it does not go out of fashion for yourself. Currently, purple is the new Tiffany Blue. And while I do not give a toss about current trends (my fashion sense was formed in the 1970s), I may pick one of those up, because I like bright colours - I did mention when my fashion sense was formed, didn't I?

Tiffany Blue is here to stay. Hype beasts love that color and I don’t think it’s ever going to fall out of fashion.

Get a strap monster that way you can add color with the strap if you want but the watch will be more timeless and not go out of style. Silver, white, black, and cream work well.

@TheLeftyWatchNerd You've got a great eye...Thanks👊🏽 That's the watch that images my Rolex Deep Sea Dweller.  Both watches are hard to wear at times.  It's too top heavy. But the MM300 has a little better balance because the bracelet tapers from 20mm to 18mm at the clasp. Unlike the Deep Sea 20mm to 16mm.  Cheers 🍺🍻

Yellow. There is no way people will want this watch with its horrible, clashy colorway 53 years after it comes out. Oh wait…

A Deep Sea and an MM, what a great duo to have! That's like having Arnie and Stallone in the same room 😂

Absolutely, bought a Seiko 5 Sports all black and it was illegible. Had to return it immediately

I love the turquoise Doxa Sub 200 right now. Not a Tiffany Blue but close. I’m holding off to see if the admiration fades

Wow, nice watch! Don't get me wrong, I think tiffany blue dials are great, I just think people are too crazy about tiffany blue because of that 5711 and that Rolex OP.
