Hi everyone, I wanted to share where I am currently in my collecting journey and where I hope to get to. It's been interesting to see other collectors' philosophies and how they differ from my thought process. From the start, I've been drawn to diverse dials and build materials. I also love to plan ahead to ensure variety across categories (diver, racing, pilot, dress, etc.) and brands. This allows me to maximize the number of watches I get to own and wear, because no two watches will ever be similar. I've decided on 20 watches I'd like to own and I am 50% of the way there.
My watches:
G-Shock GA2100SKE-7A (Resin case, analog-digital dial, beater)
Citizen Stiletto Blade (Ceramic, museum dial, dress) - I took this watch from my dad because he was no longer using it and the ceramic watch I am planning on getting I've slated for 2043. Yes that's how dysfunctional my planning has gotten.
Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 (Steel, waffle dial, everyday) - this was my first watch I bought that I wouldn't mind beating around, but since I've laid out the 20 watches, this piece just isn't different enough to warrant a slot in my collection. My plan is to replace this with an Atelier Wen Perception.
Boldr Odyssey Freediver Meteo113 (Steel, meteorite, diver)
Straum Opphav Damascus (Damascus steel, lacquer, field)
Sinn 556i Mother of Pearl (Steel, mother of pearl, pilot)
Seiko Presage Arita Porcelain (Steel, porcelain, dress)
Tudor Black Bay Bronze (Bronze, sunburst dial, diver)
Omega Speedmaster Professional (Steel, chronograph, racing)
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Dual Time (Gold, complication, caller GMT)
Watches for the future:
Grand Seiko SBGA415 (Titanium, textured dial)
Rolex Datejust 41 (904L steel with white gold bezel)
Atelier Wen Perception (904L steel, guilloché)
anOrdain Model 1 Plum Fumé (Fumé enamel)
Rolex GMT-Master II (904L steel, traveler GMT)
Rolex Yacht-Master 40 16622(904L steel with platinum bezel, platinum dial)
Cartier Tank Americaine (Rose gold)
Doxa Sub 300 Carbon (Carbon)
Zenith Defy Classic Black (Ceramic, openwork)
A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia Thin Copper Blue (Aventurine dial)
F.P. Journe Chronometre Bleu (Tantalum)
I started by writing a short blurb behind each watch, but soon realized that would take me hours. I'd love to hear your thoughts. Do you like to plan ahead like this, or does it take away the joy of collecting?

Nice collection, looks like you've got big plans for the future. I find it difficult to stick with plans as I'm constantly discovering new watches.
I love your MOP sinn 🥂
Very nice and diverse collection, you can see you've put a lot of thought into it. I really like the approach of having a shortlist or potential future collection. Of course the watches in it might change as new releases come out or tastes change, but I think it's a very fun way of doing it even if it's just that, for fun.
I've done this recently, but nowhere near the extent of yours.
I'm about 1/5th there, so still a long ways to go, but that's the fun of it. For now, I don't even know what I'd add as a 5th watch yet.
this collection is realisitic for most people and i love the choices you made! Its nice knowing that you have watches that are only $100 mixed in with the rest. I dont have a collection yet but I found that planning ahead is key. I realized my tastes change all the time so its good to have an idea of what you want before you commit. For your future watches, which will be first to get and which will be the hardest to attain? Im thinking that FP Journe could be a bit difficult? Most attainable maybe the tank? And it looks like you need red in your collection haha
Nice collection, and ambitious plans 💪 I stay at 4 watches I think, I'm getting a panic attack just thinking of your watchbox 😅
Good job so far and a very intriguing plan for the future. Many I would love to have in my collection. Was a bit surprised when the Yacht Master popped up as your 3rd Rolex. Is it cause of the platinum? Tried to find something in the same monetary ball park. Found this
1st off,wow you've got some super heavy hitters in your box and plans for more,so congrats on good taste and deep pockets (less of that now,we're only jealous). And your right you've got watches for every eventuality and occasion,me personally I love divers and divers is what I've got, and there's so much diversity in the genre that I too can cover every base. Only thing I'd advise you to do is keep the tissot,it's your 1st and a classic in its own right worthy of a place even among your heavyweights.
Well done @KevinK , well done!

I have a pretty strict theme so it's easy to plan ahead. But of course, I need to try on the watches at the AD before I commit, and there actually have been some watches I had to drop because I didn't like them. An example is the Frederique Constant Worldtimer in rose gold-plated stainless steel. I thought I would love it but it looked too busy on my wrist (to be expected in hindsight haha)

Thanks! The future watches are actually in chronological order, with the Grand Seiko planned for end of 2022 and F.P. Journe planned for 2074. I have things planned by total net worth that's needed to afford these pieces given a static yearly income. Unfortunately, this is hard to follow as I have put in a auction bid for the rose gold Cartier Tank Americaine. Absolutely, the F.P. Journe will be the most difficult. They will be even more collectible if Journe were to pass. And I'm trying to cover red with the anOrdain Plum 😀

Yep, that's exactly why. I tend to make strange decisions and sacrifices just to follow a collecting theme. I considered a Vacheron Constantin Les Historiques (similar price to the Rolex 16622) for the platinum and brand but at the end of the day, I don't like the way it looks.

It's actually my third watch, but the first beater haha. I love the way it looks but I'm afraid once I get the Atelier Wen Perception, there's no way the Tissot would get any wrist time 😕

I guess it would be easier if I could confine myself to higher-end watches, but I just keep seeing things I can afford that look interesting. I've been about to by a Black Bay 58 for close to a year now, but other things keep getting in the way (in a good sense). As for that world timer, it looks great from here, but I've never tried it on. I can see it being too busy though.
OMG - that's a fantastic group!
Sinn MOP?! Arita Seiko?! Straum in green?! Citizen Cermaic?! AP-RO!
So varied with really unique pieces throughout.
I think the Rain coast GS, Doxa Carbon and that Black Defy are my faves of the potentials list.
Kudos 👏!

I think there’s merit in thinking critically about watches that are affordable to you. Watch collecting can easily spiral out of control if the low price is what’s appealing. But I disagree about confining yourself to higher-end watches. My favourite watches to wear are those in the $1-2k USD range, even more so than the Tudor and the Omega. And the only time I wear my AP is at my desk because I don’t want to become a target in public. That watch is way above my station in life.

Thank you! I like buying popular models with a twist!
I’ll have to check that watch out! The short and controversial answer is I like the Datejust 41 but also am trying to build a relationship with the AD so I can get my hands on a GMT-Master 🙃

I just meant if I were only into higher priced watches I’d have no choice but to save for them which would take planning. The thing is, I keep seeing lower priced watches I think are interesting. There are tons of vintage watches out there, as well as quality pieces at so many different prices.
I appreciate value, and that can come at many different prices.
Considering how usless are our objects of desire, I have a simple policy regarding watches - "whatever brings you joy". If maintaining a shortlist for the future rubs you the right way - enjoy!
Fab collection, I am deeply jealous dude....
I'm currently waiting on delivery of my Straum Damacus Opphav (in blue) and I'm saving my pennies for a Seiko SLA043. Most of all though I'm jealous as hell of your anOrdain. I can't even get on the list to get on the list to buy one of them. I was thinking of hopping on the Ryanair flight to picket their office until they let me get one! One day perhaps

Hey hard to see, but I only have watches before ‘Watches for the future’. All the ones under it I’m still waiting and saving up for (except the Grand Seiko and the Cartier which I got last year). I’m allocated to 2026 for the anOrdain haha. Hope you enjoy the Straum!
