Three watch collection or one watch?

These are three watches from my collection I am rotating at the moment. Grand Seiko SBGX261, Cartier Tank, Christopher Ward Bel Canto. Coincidentally the total cost is around what it would cost for what I consider possibly the perfect watch (rolex datejust, black dial, Roman numerals, hidden clasp.) so the question is - which would you prefer?

I like the Datejust, but not enough to part with those.

You know the perfect watch doesn't exist, right?

·

Sorry, I don't get Rolex, I'd go for the three every time.

·

I like the idea of a 1 watch collection, and I always told myself that a Rolex Daytona (a watch i love) could fulfill that. But they're impossible to get at retail so I stopped bothering.

Then I fell enamoured with the Spring Drive movement, so I had to go there. Then it was this, then that...

I thrive for a 3-watch collection now, it's my sweet spot and my ideal rotation. 2023 is going to be about trimming the fat. Got 2 keepers (blackbay 58, GS sbge253) and the third I want is either going to be a Pelagoa 39 or a Speedmaster.

I think 3 because one watch can't be ideal for every occasion.  I'd need at least one dress, one sports, and one to be determined at a minimum.

It depends on your lifestyle. I could easily just have a black dial DateJust as my only watch. Or any number of watches I currently own. I’ve even thought about my Pepsi as a one watch collection (with a G-Shock for the rough stuff). And for years I pretty much wore the Exp II Polar as one watch, even though I did own others.

The reason I have multiple watches is just because I love them. Not because I need them. And I don’t currently aspire to any more expensive watches than what I have. But if I did, I’d happily trade multiple watches to get what I really wanted.

IF you’re going to live the one-watch life it just needs to be a watch that fits all your typical life scenarios.

Yes my second choice for perfect one watch is a Pepsi on Jubilee.

and yes either option has a cheeky plastic Casio for jogging with.

Now, if you had said Pepsi on jubilee was the one watch, I'd have said that 👍

I like to pretend I have situations where only a black dial would do.. in reality I wear jeans and sweatshirt every day.

Oh and I just remembered price! I could have these three and the datejust for the price of the pepsi (taking market price here seeing as it’s unobtainable at RRP)

Is it unobtainable at RRP though?

All jokes aside, yeah it's pricey on grey market.  It is going down though...like DOWN.  I've seen some under 18k in the last couple days. That is saying something for a watch that was 10k more than that just 6 months ago.

Anyway, it's a great piece.  If you want it, hope you get it some day.  Wishing you luck watch brother!

It's a black dial with some flair.  Still looks classy though.

I’d love to be on a list for it - but where i am in London even having bought 2 low interest Rolexes from the AD this year doesn’t seem to get me any inroads. Hell I’ve been waiting a year for an explorer and no call yet.

I think the right kind of person would thrive with a single, amazing watch. No choices, no changing outfits to suit the watch you want to wear, just the same beautiful piece every day. I am not that kind of person but I get it for those who are
