The fastest crashing watch in the world right now (or, how I bought an MB&F MAD 1)

Has anyone seen the madness that is MAD 1 prices? From around £16k less than a year ago - the price has now crashed to around £4.5k.

I can only assume this is because the latest influx of raffle winners came in and the vast majority of winners were flippers - so supply is outstripping demand.

I don’t think the price has much further to fall - it’s a bit of hot horology from the brain of Max Busser. Have you seen the sapphire case and the lume? 😍 So I’ve picked one up! Look out for the WRUW when it arrives.

Is anyone else tempted at the price?

Wow Congrats! That’s almost a ‘bargain’? I heard that they’re super engineered and the amount of details that go into these are crazy! I still can’t tell the time on these thought😅

Well there are plenty out there for low prices - I’ve paid £4450 delivered…

In a word, no.

I appreciate MB&F as works of art, but not something I'd wear.

I think we have to be careful in looking at this chart. Just because they ask for it, doesn’t mean that is where they sold at. eBay auction results are a better gauge.

At the peak of the hype cycle these were $8-10k. Then they settled to $6k when the hype died. Batch two dropped now they are $4-5k. I’d argue anyone that got it from the lottery is doing fine. I think they will continue to drop and likely settle around $3-$3.5k. If they do another drop next year, even less.

Believe these are sold prices through chrono they base the charts on..

(Congrats on the new MB&F!)

Aren't they a miyota movement?

No really my style , but very cool 😍👍🏻👍🏻 Congrats, look forward to seeing pics 👏🏻👏🏻

I absolutely love weird watches. But... This one is just... To weird for me I guess. How the hell do you tell what time it is? Tbh, to me it looks like a watch and a fidget spinner had a baby! Which is really cool but also not very "watch" like I guess. But as with all things, if you like it then good on ya and I hope it brings you years of happiness! I guarantee I have a couple myself you'd look at go NOPE UH UH! Like many things it's a matter of perspective. I will say this, It's one of the most unique pieces I've ever seen! Congratulations my friend.

·

Hey that's a win in my mind! Especially if you're looking to keep it for generations!

·

Most watches lose a great amount of value in the first few years, “a used one that is”. There are the usual suspects that do not lose value, Rolex, Patek, Vacheron, but most previously owned watches are far less than MSRP when/if you go to sell one.

I’ve always loved Urwerk. I was in a watch shop about 3 years ago and was shocked to see a 6 figure Urwerk that was a few years old for around $30k or about a quarter of its MSRP.

·

Congrats on the watch! Very cool piece.

AND: thanks to this post I found out MB&F does more than time machines...(see HERE), so thank you for drawing my attention to MB&F (whom I'd vaguely heard of; but had never visited the site). Enjoy wearing your Mad Machine!

·

Congrats, what a great deal 🤝

Was lucky to be chosen (Humbled & Blessed) this year and it's definitely not your second or even tenth watch. To be worn delicately with its 17mm height but a conversation piece for sure. I immediately wanted to flip mine (saw them listing for CAD 12k locally) but decided to keep it.

Unless it changed, Chrono charts are listing prices (whether they sell or not) not to mention most folks make off platform deals.

Agreed. Lucky to get it in the first go around. Not worn often, but not going anywhere either.

Mine is coming in 2 months from the mad gallery. I told myself that i found the one watch for my life which is a blue bb58 and wont get anything costly for years. Then the lottery email came to me. Im still fascinated by max’s creativity thus i break my own rule. I hear that his team created the rotor and modified the movement in house thus cant produce that many. I understand there is a niche for this type of product and prob not a great resale value once supply is higher than demand. I do have a bit of a worry though when sjx reported that the case got glue to the X metal lugs and body. But i hope the glue stays till the end of my life 🙂 there are diff kind of glues right? :)) hope u have fun with it. It will be a reminder to myself to stay childish and have fun in life.

Someone fill me in please. What’s the story with the lottery?

·

I don't think I want that anywhere near me. Not my cup of tea, but i'm pleased you're pleased with your purchase!

Mad one editions allocate these based on a lottery scheme. If you google mad one red the page will come up.

·

Dude! Score! I’m waiting on the next lottery, I think.

Prefer to get direct from Max

Entered all the previous lotteries and came up bumpkiss. I was honest and only entered once (as per instructions), but suspect many winners (flippers) found ways to enter multiple (?100s) times.

Yeah, pretty hilarious, love when flippers get hooched. I remember them on sale for 15k USD everywhere

I actually wore mine to the Omega Event (double wristing with a Speedy) and it blew a lot of people's minds hehe

I double wristed it last week with a Rolex sub! A mate wanted to check them both out!

Ha! Awesome 💪🏽🤓

Mine arrived much earlier than expected. It wears better than the dimension! Really eye catching. The strap is stiff though so hopefully will loosen itself over time.
