I'm looking for recommendations!

As the title suggests, I've recently moved on my 36mm Aqua Terra in order to fund something special which is inbound. Pics will be plentiful when it arrives.

This has left a space however for 36-38mm sized, dark faced everyday kind of piece. Something suitable to replace the AT.

The budget is £500, the catch is no Smiths pieces, no quartz pieces unless it's something special.

What would you recommend?

Hamilton khaki field mechanical 38mm. Pick these up for around £250 on eBay! Lovely little piece 👍

·

I'm looking at these, some used Longines and seriously considering CW C65 trident vintage mkii.

·

A safe, but somewhat uninspiring option would be a Citizen like this. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous, how about a Merkur:

They are both 38mm, round about £150. If you like vintage military style, at about the same price, Baltany makes a Dienstuhr version and a flieger, both at 36mm.

I agree Hamilton is great choice at this range. I think the other Khaki field designs are more everday like this one: Khaki Field Automatic Watch - Black Dial - H70555533 | Hamilton Watch

EDIT: They make a 38mm version too FYI

·

This would be a lot easier if you hadn't shown me a pic of that great Omega.  Now everything I think of doesn't quite stack up.  I agree on the Hamilton, but it has a much different vibe to it.  I would say the Gentleman or PRX from Tissot, but those both go over your budget.  Maybe this?

EDIT: too big

How about a Vaer field watch

Or Astor and Banks fortitude

I would go for the Tissot PRX, although that might be a bit big for you.

·

hey man im sure you would love these

For 500£, I would check

Relio Solstice

Lorier line-up

Nodus line-up

Astor is a great proposition too,

Maybe in the more diver side, Clemence watch ? The founder is here on WC, and he seems a really nice guy.

I also love the recent offer from Galvin Watch Co

And last but not liste, Wise with the Adamascus.

I forget many cool Micros, maybe not exactly what you're looking for but they sure have qualities to show

Do you have any in your collection? I’m definitely thinking of adding a Falcon. what do you recommend?

·

I really like mid sized three handers, so in addition to the ones already mentioned...

Mido Multifort 38, Certina DS Podium, Citizen NB1050, Traska Summiteer/ Commuter, Serica 4512, Charlie Paris Concordia, ...

·

it depends on what genre you prefer. neptune or falcon are great choice. my collection is small, one model in every genre and i still dont have a chronograph. if it is time to buy my choice would be oris diver sixty chronograph if i have enough money lol

Image

but my second choice (which is more affordable) is this lorier gemini, i mean look at this beauty! two things that im concerned is the seagull movement (i dont have any experienced with it) and the acrylic crystal, otherwise it is a perfect watch for me

I've had a Bambino and it didn't last. They do make a nice 38mm size version now but I think it might be a little dressy for what I'm looking for.

·
Guyllheaume

Bambino are 50m water resistant I think. Maybe too little WR for an AT replacement

That's fair. I am not sure why I did not consider that haha.

Both beautiful looking watches. I'll be sure to check them out. I think in this price range microbrand is going to offer most bang for buck.

Nice looking pieces but they're way too big for me. I'm waiting on an automatic version of 35mm and then I'll be all over it.

Maybe because YOU want to buy a 38mm Bambino ? 😇

Unfortunately I've had one and didn't rate it at all. I found the bracelet taper too severe from 20mm to 16mm the links to sharp along the edge and the rotor was excessively noisy. Maybe V3 will address those issues.

oh man i thought they were good in terms of quality

Apart from the noisy rotor my problems with it a very subjective. You may not have an issue with the taper or the links. I found they were issues I couldn't live with, they prevented me from wanting to wear the watch.

I second the Lorier and the Astor and Bank. Those are the first to come to mind. Both super versatile.

I would at the halios seaforth as well, if you can get one.

Oh, my Serica is awesome too! Especially if you are looking for something a bit different.

I want to say a big thank you to everyone that made suggestions and recommendations, it gave me something to consider.

I made a quick decision and got lucky in my hunt to replace the Aqua Terra on a budget.

In the end I went with the Christopher Ward C65 Trident Vintage Mkii.

Really punches above its weight, quality bracelet. It's my first CW but it won't be the last.
