Blinded by the Light...

So, I heard about Zelos some years back, and had only ever heard positive things. Then a few months ago, I heard about the Miyota 9075 through a TGV video on Youtube, and the existence of the movement was a revelation to me. A high beat automatic traveler's GMT for the masses? In other words, for a reasonable price?! Yes, please!

In researching the movement, I found out that Zelos was planning to offer a Mako GMT with a malachite dial, but only to members of the Zelos Timekeepers Facebook group. So I joined. I didn't realize at the time that there were going to be other colorways, and I wasn't sure about the green, gilt and yellow color scheme. Then I found out that there were going to be other colors, and when I saw the Frost version, I knew it was for me, especially in light of Zelos' excellent reputation for heavy lume applications, and the listed price.

The real impetus for this watch though, is the travel aspect. This is really a watch that is the only piece that I need to take with me on a vacation. It's inexpensive enough that I don't need to worry about banging it up, and with the water resistance rating, the traveler's GMT functionality and the general style, this really is the perfect vacation watch.

I debated endlessly about whether to go with this piece or the Malachite Timekeepers edition. In the end, I'm glad I went with this piece. Not only did I inadvertently wind up with the rarest of the Mako GMTs (only 150 were made in this colorway, whereas 400 were made of the Timekeepers Edition), but I also wound up with a watch that the big players in the industry don't generally make -- a piece with a fully lumed dial. Add to the fact that it's my first watch rated for 300M of water resistance (I have multiple other pieces rated to 100M and 200M), my first piece with a ceramic bezel, my first Japanese automatic, my first piece with a 4 o'clock crown and my first Zelos, and folks, we have a keeper!

We’ve been chatting through Messages. In an interesting twist, my watch was production number 053/150 and his was 054/150, so we wound up having consecutive pieces!

I discovered Zelos through my Horizons GMT which made me realize that I will probably never buy watches from Seiko again.

It is honestly a great product at a killer price. I understand the hype now.

What a great watch. I have been looking at Zelos for time, they seem to seem out so soon. The brand is on my wish list for sure and no doubt one day will snag one.

This right here is the reason that I went with this colorway:

Congrats! I've got a Mako V3 Titanium Frost, I love the white dial with full lume, it's so cool! And the glowing logo on the crown is so useless, and I love it!
