Pretenders for sure

I'm happy with the 100m WR on my Seiko 5KX. More than I'll ever need. Screw down crowns are nice but my crown has a good enough gasket.

Are luminescence, water resistance, and sapphire crystals the trifecta of uselessness, or should chronograph be in there instead?

Power reserve indicator, skeletonization, heart thingy, watch faces that are too busy to actually tell the time, display caseback, lume (at a goofy extreme level), WR (at a goofy extreme level), gas release valve, packaging/boxing extravagance, bluetooth, and limited editions.

Power Reserve, WR and lume aren't relevant to me. (Any Vostok has my WR covered).

I enjoy a display caseback and use the chrono all the time.

Pr is useful on hand wind watches and for me, 100m wr and sapphire crystal is nice as I swim in every watch I currently have.

Those features are a bonus that are often found on quality watches. Probably won't need it, but more capability is usually a good thing if it doesn't come at unreasonable cost.

WR and sapphire seem to be pretty darn important whenever Seiko is brought up. So people definitely seem to value these features, needed or not.

I find it amusing when lack of a signed crown is made into a big deal.

I don't value specs because I need them; rather I prefer them so I don't ever need to be worried about it.

I don't prefer sapphire because I'm actively running a knifepoint on my crystal everyday, nor do I prefer high water resistance because I'm going to dive deep. However, I do prefer them, and, for example, if you gave me the option of a low water resistance vs. a high water resistance between two identical watches, I will choose the higher water resistance every time 100% of the time.

Of course that doesn't mean I will automactially reject a watch that lacks these specifications. Design, purpose, specifications, and cost all should compliment each other.
