Next Grail Watch

For me the next aspirational watch that I would love to add to my collection is the iconic Cartier Tank Louis in exactly this configuration - What is your next grail watch? What is it that you just cant get past every time it pops up on some watch site or insta pages? Share the pics of your grail watch and why are you so drawn towards it

Attainable grail, but grail nonetheless:

With how you have your Cartier configured, you'd probably appreciate my Hamilton Registered Edition:

Got mine , Seamaster 300.

Next purchase will be either a 2254 or Vertex M100A .

Couldn’t agree more with your grail watch. I have the Santos but it just isn’t as classy as the Tank Louis - in precisely the configuration that you show. Let me know if you are ever thinking of pulling the trigger - maybe we could negotiate a ‘buy one, get one free’!

Isn’t this too small for you?

Please read more about Cartier Tank and its history - its charm is in its smaller size and thats why it is iconic - I wouldnt want anything bigger if its Cartier tank - no watch lover does

But you were the one asking whether the tank was too small for you the other day. That’s not you courting public opinion over whether your watch is too small? And now you want to lecture me over whether I’m being size-ist, who on record goes to bat for sub 34mm each and every?

I need an honest opinion from you guys who understand watches & love them like i do - I just got this Cartier Tank and while i love the look and the vintage feel I am not sure if its too small for me? As a guy wearing this 23mm X 28mm watch im wondering how many people would think it’s a ladies watch that i am wearing. What do you think?

???

I don’t know - but if you had to ask I think Cartier is not for you…

Yeah I was asking if it feels like a ladies watch for me as all my watches are 39 plus - I have always loved Cartier Tank in this size coz thats how Tank is supposed to be - thats why I spent my money to buy it )))) - so again ill ask you a question - does it look good on me? I believe it does

This JLC master calendar chrono is my grail. I hope to get this for a significant birthday or promotion. This is a triple calendar chronograph with moonphase in 18k that just feels amazing.

This beauty from RGM, the hands and numbers like these are just gorgeous, and the small seconds...I don't talk like this even at my girlfriend 😅

If you cannot use your own words to insult me, what hope do I have in convincing you that maybe you need to step back and think…

I was, in all fairness, trying to query your decision to go all in on a Tank Louis when you were having size-anxiety over your existing Tank. I asked a simple question; you went on the attack.

If you have to ask, deep down, if this watch is ok, it is always going to prey on your mind. Been there, done that, warned others…

You can call me arsehole, but I am a very helpful one. Forgive me for questioning your decision to double down on a small(er) watch when you demonstrated the need to defend your choice earlier this month; we are allowed to ensure other WC members are ok, and do not feel obligated to buy expensive watches to feel part of the group, especially if they are not comfortable with the size and style, which you initially were not. Regardless of whether you loved the watch or not, you had to ask a watch forum “what do you think”? What does it matter? What do you think?

Enjoy the Tank Louis if you pick one up. I think it is a solid piece, but it wears small as the model you have posted is 29.5 mm x 22 mm x 6.35 mm gold quartz, which is similar in size to the one you already have. I do not think that is too small, on the contrary, but the larger models run at 33.7 mm x 25.5 mm x 6.6 mm, which also contain an in-house mechanical movement, which might be more up your street (or might not be - wtf do I know apparently). Good luck.

Feel free to have the last word, I suspect you will.

Stay classy.

I have been classy so far and thats why used your own words to remind you what you are being - but alas you had to write a whole story here .. thanks - and btw who made that senseless rule "If you have to ask then this isnt the watch for you"??? The whole point of having a community of people with interest and knowledge about these things is to ask their opinion which would be unbiased in most cases and it helps to make choices - Anyone with that kind of thinking is actually being pompous whether I say it or not ( and i didnt actually say it - just pointed you to your own profile arguing like a little girl in comments) - And about your point around "making sure people dont buy expensive watches unless they are sure" I appreciate the sentiment and sincerity - Im a newbie on this forum but not new to watch world - collecting for last 30 years - And about the two models I always loved the smaller one as its more true to how Tank is supposed to be - I feel they made larger Tanks to please the crowd that generally loved only large watches but to me Tank was always better in smaller size - Only thing I was asking people was whether on my wrist does it look good or not in terms of size as I could be delusional about things and its good for people who know about watches to give an outsiders' perspective - So yeah Stay classy .. No hard feelings and i do respect your knowledge for sure - trust me on that

Personally. I would buy the XL and I’m that guy who likes a slightly fuller look but hey if you feel comfortable carrying it off - it’s perfect. Great fit specially as a dress watch.

·

That’s my next. A Xmas gift to myself. Just can’t get it out of my head. 😍😍

yeah but i have close friends who purchased XL and then regretted it big time because they realized that while as a watch it looked perfect it just killed that Tank look that was made so damn iconic when the Great Ali wore it on his massive wrist in a small size..They said they wish they had gone for the smaller size
