Hello Everyone

Started my Hobby 2 years ago and the thing that scares me by far the most is that I have started to think that 8500€ for a Watch is reasonable

I was specificly talking about a Speedy. But It´s more about the fact that 5 years ago I was the guy that always went on about "why would you need a wrist watch, you have a phone dummy" to a full fledged collector. And when i started collecting 1000€ seemed way too much for a watch and now I´m trying to hunt down a used Speedy for a good price.

It should be scary if planned out responsibly.

Putting money aside to spend no matter what the amount is the only effective way to make such a purchase no matter what your income looks like.

There is also very possible that if you can’t spend the amount after saving , investing and of course paying for normal bills getting a smilar Watch that is much more affordable is always an option except when getting it is only to rush the purchase to “scratch the itch of aquring”

Hope this helps…

I have an old speedy, 30 years old and going strong! There's a good reason why NASA chose it to go to the moon, you won't regret it!

Hello!! Welcome. You'll find it easy to spend money on watches when you see all the gorgeous pieces floating around here. It's an exercise in self control. I'm not doing too well to be honest. But my wallet is keeping me in check!

Same with guitars XDDDD

The way I look at it .. its not a spend.. if you eat high end sushi or wine that is a spend.. with high horology you are just parking your money on beautiful pieces of art/engineering for future generations. It's an asset that you can liquidate if you fall on hard times.. and with hyperinflation you will recover some of the money you "spent". Just buy using debt and pay off over time with cheap money.

Yes your view of pricing tends to shift once you dive in, it's important to remain grounded n reality! For most people, $8500 is a huge chunk of cash- even when you make six figures. Just calculate how many weeks worth of groceries, months of mortgage/rent or tanks of fuel that is to keep things in perspective.

Also, don't panic if it is out of reach for now. It's not an essential item and it's always better to have food on the table than a nice watch on the wrist. Keep your priorities straight and you'll get there eventually!

If you can afford it, rationalize it and you love it then buy it.

I told the wife I wanted one and she didn't flinch. Gonna be like 10 years, but she didn't flinch.

Welcome to the community!

I used to think spending anything over $50 on a watch was ridiculous. Now? 🤫
