A few weeks ago my good mate Craig @Guvnor64 sadly lost his Mum. There's a much longer story there but it's not mine to tell. The long and the short of it is that, having found this rather lovely J.W. Benson hunter pocket watch (and a number of other watches) in her house, he asked me if I'd like to take a look at it.
Surprisingly it was running reasonably well but it looked a little sorry for itself, the crystal was cracked and the dial was filthy
The movement was pretty dirty too.
I didn't want to entirely remove the wear and tear from the case as both Craig and I thought it would better to keep that history, but it did get a thorough clean and polish...
I gave the dial and hands a gentle clean too..
Then it was onto the movement which I stripped down, cleaned and rebuilt (oiling where necessary)...
From there it was just a case of putting it all back together...
And finally fitting a nice new crystal...
I think it turned out pretty well and it's running like a good 'un.
See, I'm not just Mr. Seiko, just Mr. Mostly Seiko. 😁
Until next time beautiful people.

Can’t love this enough. You do great work, good sir.
That came out beautifully. I wish I could find an old watch like that. I see too many "I know what I have"'s for sale.
Great job.
Thank you so much mate! You have done a fabulous job. Should I describe it as a sensitive renovation? You should do this stuff for a living! Incredible job!!
That looks absolutely amazing!!

I tried to be sensitive... I'm a sensitive soul me. 😉
I'd do it for a living but the NHS would miss me. 😏
Beautiful restoration,that movement looks amazing
Great work going on good to see something a bit different getting a second life
Awesome job, you've worked some proper magic on it.
Lovely watch. The movement appears to be this...

...by Cyma. The only minute difference is the design of the hairspring stud carrier, but these varied in Cymas. The layout is pretty much it.
