WHAT I BOUGHT IN JANUARY!

Shout out to those who made a watch plan for 2024 and to those that made it through January and stuck to it. One month down!

Did you do it? One watch per month perhaps? Money in the kitty for a goal watch later in the year? Reduce your collection? Repair rather than replace?

January sailed by without a watch purchase for me which is new territory since I caught the bug in 2019. I'm notoriously unfocused in my collecting with little thought of strategy so it would be nice to bear down a bit.

Hoping to hear how your plans are developing and looking forward to seeing any related pics.

I’m -2 for January. -2 or -3 more in February. We’ll see how things go from there…I tend not to make too many plans

i personally don’t get it. it takes me years to research and stalk listings before i will even entertain the thought of buying. some pieces on my watchlist have gone from merely preowned to vintage while waiting for me to make a decision.

·

Haven’t bought anything since last August or so. It’s getting to be about that time, though. I can feel it. 😆

Lately I’ve been dumping funds into other stuff. It can suck having multiple expensive interests and hobbies.

Maybe you've just mastered wringing out every drop that is the joy of the hunt. 👍

Awwww. A fellow hoarder!🤣

My last purchase was October 2022, nothing in 2023. Bought my new Aqua Terra this week - that will likely be it for 2024!

·

I made a promise to my wife that I wouldn’t buy any new watches in 2024. So far so good! 1 month down 11 to go.

Haha!

I’m actually not! I’ve watched those shows with my wife before. I find the thought pretty horrific. I wouldn’t call myself a minimalist, but I try to keep things to a reasonable minimum.

I'm holding strong, but the temptation to get that Falcon had to be resisted once or twice already.

·

Plan? I can barely plan out my life much less my watch spending. I just have a kitty that I refill by selling stuff on FB marketplace and when I run across something that fills in one of the watch shaped holes in my heart or adds something to my collection I pull the trigger.

·

I had to admit this elsewhere but I finally got my grandfather's pocket watch back from service after dropping it off last April. I refuse to count this as a purchase. I truly believe this is the last of the "drawer finds" to be had by my family.

Congratulations! It doesn't matter if you're Producer Michael or Kevin O'Leary, a family watch is one that can't be added (at any cost!) to one's collection if it doesn't exist already. You're the steward for your generation. 👍

I don't know but even having a kitty sounds like better planning than pushing the credit limit on a credit card. 👍

It's ok...if you plan for it.😉

I made it! 😂 Zero watches for 2024. I took this screenshot from a post last month as a reminder to myself of my 2024 watch goals! 😁

January was an uncharacteristically busy month for me which is both good and bad. Between November of last year and now I've added 5 new pieces (yikes)

  1. Waldhoff Quantum Tourbillon in November

  2. Casio G-Shock in December (Christmas present from the family)

  3. Royal SEIKOAK in January

  4. Hamilton 902 conversion in January

  5. Tag Heuer Aquaracer "Hawaii" in January

I have a Studio Underd0g 02Series arriving in February and I think the wife is going to be okay with me buying the Seiko SSK023 when it releases in April as long as I promise that I'm done for the year. I've already started making plans for next year (hello Tudor 1926 as a birthday present) 😉.

One of the greatest quotes ever 👊🏼

·

I had a plan. I had a list. I had the order in which I was going to get the watches. It lasted most of last year. I had a sinn U50 first up then a green seiko gmt. So far so good next up was an empror tuna then I had a lapse last week and bought a sbbn017 tuna and a SLA 065 neither of these were on the list and I had no intention of ever getting them. Worse the money I had saved for my tuna was totally been used in getting these two. Now I need rethink on the plan or just accept I can’t stick to a plan 🙄

It happens to the best of us and to plain schmos like me as well. Grateful though to give it some thought rather than just let things play out nilly willy as I've done in the past. At least your "lapse" was for something decent.👍

Someone has been busy! I had to look up the Waldhoff and the Tag which are great examples for diversity in a collection. Though the Seiko GMT has been tugging at my wallet another GMT for me is probably excessive. We do what we do though! Looking forward to seeing pics as your new watches arrive.👍

LOL. My issue is that my house keeps falling apart so buying watches seems frivolous. I have my eye on some more affordable pieces, but I really want a watch at a much higher price point and I know anything smaller will just put me farther away from that. Maybe later this year. I have some stuff happening in the spring that might improve my cash flow.

Yep ours is entering the years where the replacements begin…end of year furnace was great timing as it always is

No plan just buying watches I like and can afford. I bought 6 so far in '24. All affordable watches and all ones I wanted and plan to rock.

Cool that you're just enjoying the ride and not over thinking it too much. For a minute there I wasn't giving a new purchase much wrist time before sliding into the next purchase.

It wasn't so much the money for me that was troubling but rather not giving myself a meaningful opportunity to experience the watch.

Crazy how back in the day a person would have perhaps just one watch and wear it for years.

·

Strategy, what’s that?

Thanks and yes Im very liberal with my watch wearing, too. I average wearing 2-3 watches a day. One for work then I switch at night for dinners and events like the gym or dates. Then, I have a bevy of 'evening watches' that I sleep in at night to bed- must be slim, light weight, have a strong back light, so 3 I guess. I understand many here make large investments in watches, but I dont, Im carefree and cavalier about the hobby n keep it fun. Im also older and have literally hundreds of watches thru decades of collecting.
