SEIKO GIUGIARO, ANOTHER RESOLVE BUSTER!

What am I supposed to do when I can snag a limited edition Seiko Giugiaro Diver and three bonus mechanical watches for less than $100 out the door? Jump on it, that's what!

Many car nuts know that Automotive Hall of Famer Giorgetto Giugiaro designed the De Tomaso Mangusta, Maserati Ghibil & Spyder, BMW M1, DeLorean, Ferrari GG50 concept car, Lotus Esprit Turbo and even a Lamborghini Nitro Tractor.

Giugiaro also designed many others products from Nikon cameras to the Lausanne Cathedral organ to Okamura furniture.

I've been saving to make a more substantial purchase later in the year but sheesh I'm only human. A human that loves watches!

My only other 2024 relapse was a $50 Swap Meet 1968 Seiko Bell-Matic in March...

As mentioned in a recent thread I'm mostly an opportunity buyer but I don't buy watches any longer just because the price is great. I have to be enthused about the watch.

In today's case I had an unforseen opportunity to add the funky yet polarizing Seiko Giugiaro SBEE002 to my Seiko collection at a time when I'm also wanting to add quartz watches to my mix.

A Giugiaro Seiko I handled previously employed textures to differentiate the parts of the watch and the strap was extremely supple so I'm looking forward to experiencing those aspects again.

My total 2024 watch expenditure now stands at about $135 which means I get to have that RENO 911 "new boots goofin" feeling...

...while staying on track for my bigger plans later in the year.

How are other Crunchers doing with any 2024 resolutions or goals that they made? On track? Off track? Totally whack?

Tell me about it...

I've got a couple new additions inbound. I've been wanting to add another vintage Seiko 5 to my collection and I was torn between two that I really liked so I did the only sensible thing and bought them both! I'll post more details when I have them in my hot little hands. One of them should be arriving at my door within the next couple of days.

Completely sensible! All this having to choose between watches is just too mentally fatiguing.

Looking forward to seeing what you locked down. I have a huge soft spot for vintage Seikos and Seiko 5's.

You'd think having a watch collection like yours would help quell the fire but I totally get it.

Speaking of cars there is a huge watch gathering in Orange County tomorrow evening at a private storage facility for rare and collectible cars. Message me if you want to go and show off your new whip.

You know, it’s true though!

One of my strongest memories of my childhood was one evening my cousins and I goofing off, bickering, wrestling, and just being overall obnoxious as all young kids are. My uncle was watching us that night, and he’d had a few drinks, and finally had it with us, and at some point started chasing us to, you know, administer well-deserved beatings. I ended up running out into the driveway and hiding in the foot well of the rear seat of ones of the cars.

When I told my wife this story, she was utterly horrified! Meanwhile, to me, it was just another hilarious story from my childhood!

At one point, once we’d had kids, we went to visit my uncle, and hung out with him for a day. It was a great time! Afterward, my wife said, “I’m amazed that every story you’ve told me about your uncle is always about him getting drunk and beating you out yelling at you or you being deathly afraid of him, and yet, we spend a day with him, and you’re so nice to him and treat him with such warmth.”

And my thing is, “Well, he had a pretty hard time of it! You know, his life SUCKED! He was doing the best he could.”

Yeah, we’re all just human. Whenever I fail to be the dad I know I should be, and my wife has that disappointed look on her face, I’ll say, “I’m sorry. But I am doing the best I can. I’ll try harder, but sometimes it’s the best I can do!” It really goes a long way!

It’s a Tesla..I will be chased out if I show up with an electric car

That seems like a screamin deal. Congrats. I was able to snag some digital deals on my end soooo I guess I'm on track to make no progress on reducing my consumption.
