Lottery Win Watches

Had a small lottery win, 1 number away from jackpot!

Image

Decided to use winnings to buy a couple of watches above my normal spend limit. I was raised to be very frugal and have never breached £300 with a watch purchase. However the lottery win gave me all the excuse I needed.

Purchased the Hamilton Field Auto 38mm and Seiko Speed master (gold).

I did intend to buy the Murph 38mm but after trying both on the Field Auto appealed to me more with its stark legibility.

The seiko speed timer has the same colours (black, gold) as my sports team!

I can definitely see and feel the quality difference to my other watches and will likely buy fewer watches but better quality from now on.

Interested to know what you would have gone for with a similar win, around £1,300.

Also anyone else regret buying too many watches at lower price end? I guess it's part of the journey isn't it?

Congrats on the windfall. I am not sure if I would bought a watch right away or added to the watch fund towards a few I have been eyeing that are a bit more.

Thanks. They weren't quick purchases though, i wanted to lose some weight 1st and then use the win as a reward, took me six months!

took me 30 years to win anything!

one number away from jackpot of how much? lovely buys there, I'd have a 38mm Murph and an Arnie 👍

·

Good choices, I had exactly the same experience with the Murph - beautiful but illegible.

Yes I regret buying cheaper watches, but you're 100% right it's part of the learning experience. Now I only buy used as I can afford "posher" stuff that way.

I won over 58k cad one Saturday playing a long shot picks sports lottery ticket on 6 NHL games, bought a new pair of grey flannel trousers and did not worry about the mortgage payments for 12 months, watches would have to wait. Congrats on the win and the new timepieces!👍

·

Congrats! Both lovely watches; the Seiko in that colorway looks FABULOUS!! 😎

·

I would have done pretty much exactly the same and gone straight to the hamilton Web site, great choices....enjoy

Nice and nice

Great proportions on the murph but not very legible,to me anyway

·

Congratulations, and great choices, especially the Seiko, although I would say that. The answer to your last question is no.

Wow! How many times a week do you play?

Millions...........

wow one number away and you ended up with £1300

·

Congrats on the win! Solid choices. I would have picked 1-2 from Hamilton, Seiko or Longines with a similar budget.

Looking at your avatar you have officially spent more than Wolves this summer 😄 My father in law is a lifelong Wolves fan so I feel the fans pain.

Congrats on the lottery win and the purchases! My mum always raised me to be frugal but my dad, being an engineer, raised me to always buy quality. So I guess that’s kind of how my watch collection sits, a few high quality watches but not from Rolex etc for which you are paying a lot for the brand.

One day I will buy my speedy, but when the time is right!

Thanks.

A few high quality watches is the way to go for me from now on. Still enjoy most of my old watches but the quality difference to these 2 new watches is really noticeable.

·

Oooh very very nice, congratulations friend! I've got my eyes on micro brands recently... I'd probably go for these two

Longines do some great watches around £1k-£1.5k, if i "step up" on price again definitely worth considering.

Yes - being a Wolves fan will be a struggle this year and if the manager does a runner on us we are in dire straits. Mind you not like we haven't been there before.

Awesome choice!

Congratulations good on you!

A a nice couple great choices too. I’ve been eyeing that Seiko for a while. I’m waiting to win the California lottery so I can get an Explorer on my way home from the Porsche dealer. 😉

I agree on the more inexpensive watches being harder to wear. I’ve got sub-100USD up to Tudor, Omega, Rolex (40 years old), TAG, Chris. Ward, Hamilton and many more in between. I find it harder to wear some of the cheaper watches, they just don’t feel the same as the better stuff, unless I’m doing yard work 😎. You can call me a little bit of a snob I guess but you get spoiled.

Good choices, I’m wearing my SSC817 today

Great line 😊! "I’m waiting to win the California lottery so I can get an Explorer on my way home from the Porsche dealer"

Agree re the less expensive watches - most of mine have been relegated to Gym/beater status since buying theses 2.

Nice watch collection you have - especially the Tudor pepsi.

As it happens, I need to buy a DJI Air 3 fly more combo for £1300, but that's another story...

I like your choices - here is my attempt to blend into one watch. Hammy tick, chrono tick, black and gold tick. With discount vouchers at Jura or Chisholm Hunter, can be had for £1300...

I probably would have bought a Goldeneye Seamaster—great watches never the less

Nice looking watch - ill have to take a look at it - thanks

I may stretch to a Oris big crown pointer. 1 watch a year from now on I think.👍

One watch a year is what I’m thinking too. Seems to be the sweet spot

Great watches! I really like the Seiko but UTV 😉

·

In the US the Mega Millions jackpot is up to 1.55 BILLION dollars. With that kind of money my grail is the RGM Pennsylvania Tourbillion. With out question I believe it's the most luxurious watch made in the United States at the moment.

After that I want a Breitling Navitimer

·

Congrats on a couple of great new watches!!

Love the seiko - and in team colours no less 👌

For 2200 CAD (the equivalent) I’d go for a single watch, maybe a bright coloured Oris Aquis? Or a higher end lightly used watch like a Seiko Astrolabe 62 MAS

Sadly (or happily?) I’m mostly buying more pricey watches like Grand Seiko lately 🙄

Like mentioned above, it gets harder to wear your lesser watches as quality of collection goes up. But that said - I still love wearing some cheap but high quality pieces like this 400 £ turtle I’ve got on now! 🐢
