My two Vostoks

For some reason the Vostok Amphibia always fascinated me, maybe because I am a scuba diver. I liked the quirkiness of the Vostok line and I know that nobody else that I know personally has any of the Vostok offerings. On the left is the classic 'scuba dude' Amphibia, and on the right is one of the Komandirskie line.

They are good affordable watches although i could never get past the graphics clutter. They do last a long time.

They acquired graphics clutter in the 1990's.  The earlier ones are clean.

I have the same Kommandierski...

I love my Amphibia. Mine has a clean dial and is a voracious strap monster. I want to eat a big bowl of beef stroganoff every time I wear it!

I’ve never got Vostoks. They don’t endear themselves to me either when some of them have this sort of BS.

I have a scuba dude with a cushion case which I love in theory, but the second hand stutters between 12 and about 4, and it drives me up the wall. I guess you get what you pay for.

Apparently it's a common issue and can be solved by messing with the movement, but why should I have to do that in the first place. I can get a Casio for a quarter of the price which keeps time perfectly with no issues.

·

Also, apparently they rust really badly when exposed to any salt water. I want to love them, I really do, but everything I've read and experienced for myself leads me to believe they're just not up to much.

I have a Scuba Dude ( my first automatic) and a Komanderski  ( with amphibia specs so 200m etc) Both less than 50 quid from meranom before the current war.

Both are rugged, reliable and quirky.

I have worn the scuba dude in the North Sea on several occasions.

Can't recommend them highly enough!

Try the Amphibia rather than the Amfibias, they are cheaper and better built!

I have a scuba dude cushion case. I despise the lack of a quick set date, but I like that I despise it, that's part of the experience. And that wonky crown action 🥴

It's a watch with ergonomics like none other and that's why I enjoy it.

I just don’t see the appeal.

I will be honest, the only Russian watch that has massively appealed to me is the plainer 24hr cycle Raketa / Paketa Arctic ones, with the plain white dial and the bezel with a variety of options. I always seem to miss them, but sometimes I like the thought of the simplicity behind it.

·

It's horses for courses my friend. I love them but have friends who hate em!

·

I own three komandirskie and they really seem to take a beaten and really like them, but right or wrong, I just don't feel right wearing a Russian watch with all that's going on with Ukraine, plus they are not Timex.   lol.  Back in the day, I wore them when i knew I had to bury the bodies for the family.  I live in Staten Island, New York if you don't get that reference.  Oh, and I'm Italian.  lmao!
